Bible Study should women wear head covering and men wear beards ? proof?

I don't think we should divorce what Paul was saying from the culture in which he was saying it though... This Christian who most certainly does believe that 1 Corinthians is Divinely inspired and applicable to today (as does most of the folks who are debating this topic do) certainly disagrees...

Who keeps the Sabbath without desecrating it.

So, honest question here: Do you not believe that Jesus fulfilled the Law and the Prophets on the cross?

The thing is hats were standard wear for everybody up to a few decades ago. It wasn't until the mid-60's to early 70's that people stopped putting a hat on before going outside. We have Steve's grandfather's old fedora which he never stepped outside without wearing in our closet. It's also...

I can't even imagine how hot that would be at a sunny beach!

Well, rather than go back all 10 pages and try to keep up with the conversation so far, I think I'll just jump right in and if I cover ground already covered, my apologies.... The basic debate about whether or not the women of today should wear a head covering often boils down to either Paul...

If Rollo would come to Idaho and start a church, I most likely would be there! As it is around here... sigh....

I've been reading through this thread with interest. A little too busy to chime in today, but once I get home, I'm going to share some thoughts on the subject. Too bad there is no access to archives from years ago... I remember wading through this subject once or twice back then!

Will All Teenagers 19 And Below Go To Heaven?

Jason, you are so much more knowledgeable about Jewish history and the Torah, etc... Is it true, as I've been taught in the past, that the reason the minimum age for a soldier was 20 was so that a young man could marry and have time to impregnate a wife prior to facing death in battle? Is there...

Which would make sense if either a: he counseled them to forego a wedding and just married them as soon as the license was in order or b: told him to cease living with her from now until the marriage. What them continuing to live with each other until one week before the wedding is supposed to...

    P31 Woman

Ahhh, I get it now. There is a member with that name! :nod I thought you were starting a thread about the lack of women with Proverbs 31 qualities. My bad!

    P31 Woman

Well, as I said, I was busy with two homeschooling high school kids, not too mention the ranch, my job and all the other duties.... But, I'm back. I am somewhat confused though... weren't any of the other P31 women been around?

My bff's son is getting married in June. Lord willing and Steve's dad is hanging in there, we'll head down for the wedding. The plan was to stay with them, Steve and I in a spare bedroom and the kids in an RV in their back yard while we were there. Frankly, we would rather stay in a motel and...

Will All Teenagers 19 And Below Go To Heaven?

I think the clearest scripture, to me anyway, on how sin causes spiritual death is Romans 7:7-13. I believe it is a mistake to place specific ages for things when the Scriptures do not. Basically, Paul states that once he understood the Law of Coveting, it then became the means of his spiritual...

The Church and Money in Post-Christian America

Marilyn, you make a very good point that there is indeed a distinction, and a very important distinction at that, between the Church "the Body of Christ" and the church organisation. The two should not be confused and it can get confusing because "church" can mean the Body, the local...

The Church and Money in Post-Christian America

Rather than continue on in the minutiae of how to interpret workers and wages and oxen and muzzles... I'll just completely agree with you. Whether or not the early church paid those who were recognized as pastors (I tend to believe they did)... TODAY, I wonder if we are being good stewards of...

The Church and Money in Post-Christian America

A very good point, LovethroughDove. Far too often, I find that many people believe "witnessing" is comprised of inviting people to Sunday services, rather than engaging in sharing Christ's good news of salvation.

One thing to consider here is this: When pastors are paid (not addressing the "should they be" question, just when they are) it's often the case that many in the congregation become .... passive might be a good word here... Since there is a paid pastor, then others might not counsel, teach, do...

The Church and Money in Post-Christian America

Clearly all Christians are called to share the gospel whether paid or not. Even as a person paid by a church (though not for preaching the gospel) I still share the gospel in season and out of season as it were. But as for the Timothy verse referring to missionary assignments and not...

lol.... While I've been away from this forum, I was part of a forum for moms... specifically in order to chat about homeschooling, but I also got caught up with other discussions. It was not a Christian forum by any means and having spent a year or so chatting with non-Christians there, I can...
