ÃʄĄÂÑÂúðѠßрðòþÑÂûðòýðѠæõрúþòь (Russian Orthodox Church)
These posts may be of interest only to a select few. I hope to share with you some of my culture.
I will start with the chant in all Russian Churches, which is similar I guess to Catholic. I hope I do not offend anyone. All Russian Church stuff will be posted here and not start other threads or topics.

Again, absolutely beautiful!

Can you translate the chant into English? Please?

Also, who is the old man depicted with the bear and what does it represent, what story is it telling?

I also noticed that you share many of the Greek Orthodox icons of Jesus and Mary. Absolutely stunning, moving and beautiful.

Thanks for sharing.

In Christ,
Jeff

I will do my best to do as you ask but as you know things are lost in translation. Thanks for your support for a deep religious community which has about 250 000 000 people who devote their lives to our Lord.

I hope you enjoy the spiritual place I go to which your call Churches and Cathederals: the other spritual place I go to is my river where I fish for trout and hunt deer.

Thank you Venom. The Slavic church music is in a category of its own.

Did you know that we also have this (Russian) Orthodox Church in Finland? It was imported here around the year 1000 from Novgorod, some 100 years before the Roman church found us. It was not until 1923 that the church was removed from under the Patriarchate of Moscow to the Patriarchate of Constantinople. That year the church adopted a new official name, the Greek Orthodox Church of Finland, but a Russian church it is, no matter what name it bears.

It would be wonderful if we could see some photos of this great place of love. Not sure about you but I cannot post images here, but if you get some photos Sakari I am sure we can find a way to put them online to share with others.

I haven't yet tried attaching images, I only joined the forums yesterday. And there seems to be this 20-post limit before anyone is allowed to post a link. We will just have to wait. However, it is quite easy to search the net for this "áþñþр ãÑÂÿõýøѠßрõÑÂòÑÂтþÌÂù Ñþóþрþôøцы ò Ã¥õÃȄ΄Âøýúø". If the search fails in Russian, you can try it in Finnish thus "Uspenskin katedraali" and you should be able to locate the church's own web site. It is an all-Finnish site, but there are lots of images.

Please, note that the church building itself is not 1000 years old, it's a whole lot younger. I meant above that as institution, the Russian church came to Finland a millennium ago. No original edifices exist any more.
