1 Corinthians 6:9-10
Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.
(NASB translation)

Of course, you all know that piece of scripture (or should/will)
I noticed it in another topic and wanted to discuss it how it pertains to several other christian ideals, that seem to counter what this says (or not live up to)

I didn't post in biblestudy, because this is goign to foucs more on real life situations, and current christian movemenats, rather than scripture (although other supporting evidence i guess can be used)

SO, I noticed there is a HUGE christian movement agaisnt homosexual marriage. and of course, according to this scripture, there shoudl be. It is a sin, and should not be supported. HOWEVER, this exact same piece of scripture, also contains drunks, swindlers, the lazy, and more.
It seems to me that there is a battle SOLELY against the homosexual marriage issue.
Why is there no campaign to clsoe down the bars of the world, and enact prohibition? Obviously bars and the abundant amount of liquor is around for drunkards.
Why are pyramid schemes, spam advertising, and things allowed? that is just swindling peoples money. Why are those with out jobs, allowed to get married? and given equal rights/oppurtunities.

It seems to me, that, instead of actually wanting to defend all of the scripture, because scripture is important, there is a want to defend only the 2 big points of modernday christian movements. the Homophobic agenda, and the Pro Life agenda (lets not get into pro-life vs choice here, please)
Where are the campaigns for the others? why is there no huge political stress over anything BUT the gay marriage? A sin is a sin is a sin, and by only fighting 1, 1 single sin, and not fightign the others at all (yes i am aware there are small groups against alcholism, prostitution etc) however, there is no large political movement, and there is nothing going against these other things. Is it just the government using peoples phobias against them to gain votes?

:-D Post something condoning stealing or drunkardness and see how fast we crawl out from the woodwork. ;-)

We post against the homosexual movement mainly because someone has posted or started a thread hinting at condoning it. Most of us don't start anti-homosexual threads usually, though we may post a current event now and then.

well, drinking alcohol isnt wrong in and of itself. drinking to excess is. however, if you were to take away alcohol completely, your not only affecting drunkards, but the average joe who drinks on occasion. they tried prohibition. it caused more problems than it solved. the drunkards still drank, only this time the mob got involved and made a ton.

there is a massive campaign against drugs.

but homosexuality is wrong in and of itself. there is no way to make homosexual activity one without sin. i can have a beer. no sin there. but no matter how i 'fool' around with my guy friends, its wrong.

why do we fight one sin at a time? well, damaged humans. we have an idea of what is wrong, tho moral relativism is destroying that.

Would someone please explain 'effeminate' and why that is a sin? I've come to the conclusion that the only scriptures that make any sense at all are the 4 gospels.

Thanks Relic, but the definitions given by Strong's Concordance were not exactly what I had in mind. I was more alluding to the fact that the text where the word 'effeminate' (used only ONE time in the entire Bible) is presented is often given AS THOUGH the presenter knows exactly what it's referring to. Most would not have a clue (as they don't in so many issues) as to the 'what' and the 'why', and this is basically why I asked the question.

By the way, I like this definition:

3. of a male who submits his body to unnatural lewdness.

I guess we should all try to keep our lewdness down to a respectable and 'natural' minimum. :D
