Bible Study 1 John 1:9.....Forgiveness of Sins ?

1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

The condiition here is....."IF".
ONLY IF....we confess our sins, ONLY THEN are we forgiven !

How can we ask for the forgiveness of sins(s)....when we don't even know what the Bible defines, as sin ?

59:2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid [his] face from you, that he will not hear.
Is that what happened to those in Matthew 7:21 ?

7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

To leave just one sin on the books of heaven is to have ones name taken out of.....the Book of Life.......

Exodus 32:33 And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.
QUESTION: What Book ?

Revelation 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life...."

Did you get that ?

YES, it is that IMPORTANT !!!
Just ask Adam & Eve what one little sin has done to our world ?

Every disease....every starving child......every divorce......every WAR....ect....ect.....ect....ect. is, the result of sin !

I think it is very evident about what sin is. It is disobedience of God. Jonah disobeyed God and ran away and was thoroughly chastised for it. Adam and Eve lost paradise when they disobeyed God.

Have you ever seen some of those guys on TBN who cry out to the Lord and they don't seem very sincere. I am not saying all the people on TBN are like that but there are some that are. Jesus talked about long prayers with fancy words that people pray on street corners.

I think that is what Jesus meant in Matthew 7:21.

1 John 1:9...forgiveness of sins

Jay T, it is easy to pull a few verses out of context and make something of them. As for forgivness and salvation, it is only by the grace of God, only by His mercy, that anyone is saved.

Since all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, and no one is seeking after God (Rom. 3:10-18), it is only through God's grace they hear the Word and believe.

Paul is our apostle and teacher and the doctrines set forth in his epistles are relevant for us, the church/body of Christ. He writes that we, believers, are justified, that is, God reckons us "just-as-if-I'd" never sinned. Of course, we ae living in this body of flesh, and no one lives perfectly. Even a passing thought can be wrong. Imagine a believer who knowingly sins, but dies before confessing it. In your mind he would not be saved or forgiven! And that would not be scriptural!

Romans 10:9 does not put a condition of "confessing you sins" before you can be saved. It reads, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth. the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."

Of course, when a person wants to be saved, it's because he is lost, knowing he is a sinner.

As for you not knowing what the Bible defines as "sin", I suggest you use a concordance and look up all the occurences of the word, and then come to a conclusion.

In the account in Matt.7:21ff, Jesus as Messiah King will know the heart of everyone, and obviously there will be those Israelites who have lived through the tribulation, and may have done the things described, but probably out of envy or jealousy, and they will be told to depart "ye that work iniquity."

There are many in this world who think that we won't sin once we become Christians. Christians do sin, but we are forgiven. We have to know that we have sinned and ask God for forgiveness for them. I am not saying that Christians should delibrately sin! The contrary, in fact. We should avoid sin, but we will slip and sin sometimes because we are weak.

Do you know that breaking the 4th commandment is sin ?
20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:

20:10 But the seventh day [is] the sabbath of the LORD thy God: [in it] thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that [is] within thy gates:
20:11 For [in] six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them [is], and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Christ Speaking here.....
20:20 And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I [am] the LORD your God.

Why on earth are you preaching the Sabbath to me? How would you know if I kept the Sabbath or not? In other words, I don't understand how your answers had anything to do with my post that you quoted.

It is not necessary for us to name each sin that we have committed. I for one can't remember them all. What we are to confess is that we are sinners. Then God will forgive us will work in us to remove those sins. The publican mentioned in Luke 18:13 simply said, "God be merciful to me a sinner."

Yes, Jesus is 'working' in us to remove any bad habit or sin that would keep us out of heaven.
All we have to do is...pray to God to show us any sin, that HE wants us to acknowledge, so that HE can help us to overcome that sin, to where we will never do it again !

That process, repeated until there is no more for God to show us, will guarantee us an heavenly entrance !

Unless you repent of all your false teaching, you have an appointment here.
One of the messages God has assigned for the SDA church to give to the world.....is about God's Judgment Day.......
Revelation 14:6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,
14:7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

1 Peter 4:17 For the time [is come] that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if [it] first [begin] at us, what shall the end [be] of them that obey not the gospel of God?
4:18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

God raised up the SDA church, to teach people how to pass....the Judgment day.

The 10 commandments , as found in (Exodus 20:3-17) is the standard by which every person, who claims to be a follower of God must be judged against (Eccl. 12:13,14 & James 2:10-12).

Please stay on topic. You might not agree with what some are saying so show them the error of their ways without all the drama.

God does not forgive sin(s)......
BUT, He does forgive sinners.

The proof that God does not forgive sins.....is proved by the death of Jesus Christ on the cross.

Since Jesus took 'our' sins upon HIMSELF...HE became sin, which results in eternal death....which HE suffered for every man/woman.

He died the death every sinner must face, after ...God's Judgment Day.

The reason He did not recieve any punishment, is because HE, HIMSELF, committed no sin, of HIS own makings.

It would be helpful to me if you would explain these verses to me, Jay T.:

Joh 3:18 He that believeth in him is not judged. But he that doth not believe is already judged: because he believeth not in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Joh 12:47 And if any man hear my words and keep them not, I do not judge him for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.

Every person born, comes under the death penalty, 'all have sinned', and the "wages of sin is death"....are 'under the Law', meaning ...that they are guilty before God (Romans 3:19), for breaking any one of the commandments.

BUT, those who believe that Jesus Christ died for their own sins, and have asked Jesus to forgive them, of their 'past' sins (Romans 3:25), and believed Christ's words: 'go and sin no more' (John 5:14 & 8:11)....are entitled to eternal life.

Joh 12:47 And if any man hear my words and keep them not, I do not judge him for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
When Jesus came to the earth, it was as a Savior.

BUT, when Jesus comes again...it will be as JUDGE...as the Bible says.

The person who hears Christ's words, yet ignores them....does not believe in Jesus Christ...it is just that simple.
Jesus told us that EVERYTHING hangs on HIS word(s)...eternal life.

That is one of the reasons I listen and obey what Jesus says:
20:20 "And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I [am] the LORD your God".

I DON'T WANT to hear Jesus say to me.....
Luke 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
