I keep saying I don't know what scriptures christianity is reading because I keep coming across these interesting verses during my shabath readings. The theory is that the ten lost tribes never returned post Babylon and that the term "Jews" only refer to the tribe of Judah post Babylon but here's some interesting facts on the subject.
Let's finish the rest of the chapter before going to Nehem-h.
Why are they casting lots for one in ten to dwell in Zion? Check the facts!
Not to go off topic, but another interesting fact about this topic is the connection between Israel and Ethiopia. Jer 3:14 declares taking one from a city and two from a family which I figure to be the ten tribes of Israel making it 20 cities, one taken from each city equals two of a family. The interesting part is the culture of Ethiopia is divided into 50 languages among 100 tribes which is like two cities/tribes to a family(a language)! Just food for thought.
God's message to the ten tribes separated from Judah and Benjamin before they were carried away by the king of Assyria. What's interesting to note is Amos 5:3, the amount of people in the cities reduced to a tenth.Amo 5:2 The virgin of Israel is fallen; she shall no more rise: she is forsaken upon her land; [there is] none to raise her up.
Amo 5:3 For thus saith the Lord GOD; The city that went out [by] a thousand shall leave an hundred, [color]and that which went forth [by] an hundred shall leave ten, to the house of Israel.[/color]
Amo 5:4 For thus saith the LORD unto the house of Israel, Seek ye me, and ye shall live:
Amo 5:5 But seek not Bethel, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to Beersheba: for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Bethel shall come to nought.
Obvioulsy the ten tribes of Israel!Isa 6:8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here [am] I; send me.
Isa 6:9 And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not.
Isa 6:10 Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.
Isa 6:11 Then said I, Lord, how long? And he answered, Until the cities be wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land be utterly desolate,
Isa 6:12 And the LORD have removed men far away, and [there be] a great forsaking in the midst of the land.
Isa 6:13 But yet in it [shall be] a tenth, and [it] shall return, and shall be eaten: as a teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance [is] in them, when they cast [their leaves: so] the holy seed [shall be] the substance thereof.
This is the interesting part because I came across a verse in Nehem-h that proves this happenned!Jer 3:11 And the LORD said unto me, The backsliding Israel hath justified herself more than treacherous Judah.
Jer 3:12 Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith the LORD; [and] I will not cause mine anger to fall upon you: for I [am] merciful, saith the LORD, [and] I will not keep [anger] for ever.
Jer 3:13 Only acknowledge thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against the LORD thy God, and hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every green tree, and ye have not obeyed my voice, saith the LORD.
Jer 3:14 Turn, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion:

Isn't this the Babylon exodus when chapter 3:16-18 were fulfilled?Jer 3:15 And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.
Jer 3:16 And it shall come to pass, when ye be multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith the LORD, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of the LORD: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit [it]; neither shall [that] be done any more.
Jer 3:17 At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the LORD; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem: neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart.
Jer 3:18 In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land that I have given for an inheritance unto your fathers.
Isn't this the fulfilllment of Jer 3:14's prophecy?Neh 11:1 And the rulers of the people dwelt at Jerusalem: the rest of the people also cast lots, to bring one of ten to dwell in Jerusalem the holy city, and nine parts [to dwell] in [other] cities.
