Bible Study 2 John 1:10-11

2 John 1:10-11
King James Version (KJV)
10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:
11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.
2 John 1:10-11
New American Standard Bible (NASB)
10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house, and do not give him a greeting; 11 for the one who gives him a greeting participates in his evil deeds.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

10 There will be many who don’t accept or teach the truth but teach and accept lies. Lies often bring more comfort than the truth but they are blinded to not believe the truth, they are in darkness. We are not to fellowship with false teachers because they are not are brothers or sisters in the faith; we are to treat them as the worldly people as they are. This does not mean we are not to associate the lost but not to associate with people who corrupt His word. The lost people may never hear the word unless a believer shares the gospel with them.

11 We are not to help those who have evil deeds; this does not mean we should not show love. Jesus showed love to the Pharisees even though they were false teachers. Jesus did not allow these men into His home or help spread there lies.

Here is an adage that has proved 100% correct:
Any Scripture ripped from its context is therefore a pretext.

Here is the context of the verses you chose.

2John 1: 7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.
8 Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.
9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.
10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:
11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

12 Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.
13 The children of thy elect sister greet thee. Amen.
The first thing to notice is in verse 7 where the Apostle first mentions deceivers. These are false teachers , by definition of their doctrine stating that Jesus Christ did NOT come in the flesh, then John goes further to say that this is deceptive teaching from the Antichrist, namely Satan.

In verse 8, since it closely follows the warning to not follow deceptive teaching the warning is given that there MAY be some holding back of the believer having his full reward in heaven if he believes this doctrine of demons. Notice also that it does NOT say that the one believing false doctrine will "loose his salvation", but that the FULL reward will not be his.

In verse 9, that belief is called "sin" and is a "transgression" and the one who remains in that false doctrine of Jesus Christ, does NOT have God the Father, either. In other words, not only is the denial of the incarnation of Jesus (John 1:12) a lie, it is a manifestation of an unsaved person.

Based on that, verses 10 and 11 say
It is WRONG to even say "hello" or "God be with you" or let him/her come into your house because if you do that, then you are an accessory to his heresy. That is why it is my opinion that this refers to the JWs or the Mormons who come knocking at your door. Giving them a sealed bottle of water on a hot day is also forbidden, if I am reading this correctly. (I know that I will collect some flack on that one!)

So The verses you ask about are not talking about what a person does, for those are matters for courts and lawyers, but instead we are talking about those who tell pernicious lies, and deny that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh.

Hope that this helps your understanding!

I did refer this scripture in context of the others that as why I spoke a mentioned false teachers. I would not let and teahcer of any fales gopsel come into my home or aid them this does include mormons and people of the kingdom hall.
