Bible Study 2 John 1:7-9

2 John 1:7-9
King James Version (KJV)
7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.
8 Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.
9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.
2 John 1:7-9
New American Standard Bible (NASB)
7 For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the antichrist. 8 Watch yourselves, that you do not lose what we have accomplished, but that you may receive a full reward. 9 Anyone who goes too far and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God; the one who abides in the teaching, he has both the Father and the Son.

7 There are many false truths and all of them have teachers that promote this false teaching. We as people want to believe in something and often we so not accept the truth but fall for a much easier to accept lie. All lies do not accept Jesus for who He truly is, either they reject Him all together or they devalue who He truly is. The Gnostics may be who John is referring because they taught Jesus came only in spirit and that He did not die because He was only spirit. John is saying the Gnostics are liars. A while ago Gnostic writings showed back up and people still questioned whether they were true but they still reject Jesus coming in the flesh so, they are books of lies.
8 If we are not reading the word and seeking Jesus and following Him they way we should we can easily fall for these lies. These liars are good at telling their stories because they often believe the lies themselves. We are to stay strong in the faith and fully serve the Lord and get our full reward by being faithful to Him. Often times looking at a pastor or minster or others as someone higher can lead to falling into a lie. False leaders often come from people giving these men too much power. We are to question teachers based off what the word says however this is not done enough and false teaching come in as a result of us not taking a stand against it.
9 We are to follow the word and if we reject the truth from the word then we do not have Jesus. In today’s time many try to pick apart the word of scriptures they according to this scripture do not follow Jesus because they reject the truth.

I certainly can't add anything to this excellent thread, very well done Clark. The folk who come around my home are JWs & LDSs They hold the teachings you present here. The reply that I have given over the years is to ask them "on what grounds are your sins forgiven?" They reply "Christ's blood". I ask, "Was Christ God in the flesh?" they say "no" My next question is "If you don't believe that Christ was God, then His blood that was shed was not perfect, right?" At that I've got them! Our conversation, if it lasts, goes into Christ's Blood.
