Bible Study 2 John 4-6

2 John 1:4-6

King James Version (KJV)

4 I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.
5 And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.
6 And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.

2 John 1:4-6

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

4 I was very glad to find some of your children walking in truth, just as we have received commandment to do from the Father. 5 Now I ask you, lady, not as though I were writing to you a new commandment, but the one which we have had from the beginning, that we love one another. 6 And this is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, that you should walk in it.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

4 We as believers should serve the Lord and follow the truthof the word. The truth is given from the Father and we serve Him as His childrenwho come thru our faith. We should encourage new believers to serve the Lordbecause they are children in faith. At this time as there is today there werefalse conversions, they followed the truth when it was easy to do so but whentimes got hard they left the church.

5 The scriptures contain many commandments but also havescripture that gives promises given with following those commands. Love issomething Christ showed us by His death. Love is something we receive by comingto Him in faith. Love is something we show because we have Him building us upfor the work of the Lord.

6 It is by love that we serve the Lord and follow His commands. If we show love to others we will not break laws against them and if we showlove to the Lord we will avoid breaking His will for us. Now we may have butthis does not make us perfect but gives us the desire to please the Lord and toshow love to others. His love will show in our life if we have His love in our life.

6 And this is love, that we walk after his commandments

I liked your thread Brother, You quoted one of my favorite portions of Scripture. :) We can always discern a person's profession of Jesus by their fruit, Are they obedient to the commands of Jesus or not. Boy, it sure takes the guess work out of it. A real Christian will be true to the commands when no one is around. So much of the time though someone is watching, especially the unsaved. You know what? They know how we should act even though they don't know the Lord.

We should always live our lives as though we are being watched. Actually we are being watched, Galatians 2:20 "I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me." (ESV) Since Jesus lives in me, in the presence of the Holy Spirit, God's eyes are always aware of how I act and think.

Keep up dwelling on those wonderful passages of Scripture my Brother because they will build up your faith and knowledge of the Christ. Remember, always analyze your thought life and ask God to perfect your imperfect thoughts, change your heart to be like His. Philippians 2:5 says, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus."(KJV) I make it my aim always to have the mind of Jesus.
