2 Sam 6 and Luke 1

Just curious as to what you think of this?

Both events took place in the hill country of Judah:

Luke 1
39. Now at this time Mary arose and went in a hurry to the hill country, to a city of Judah,

2 Sam 6
2. And David arose and went with all the people who were with him to Baale-judah, to bring up from there the ark of God which is called by the Name, the very name of the LORD of hosts who is enthroned above the cherubim.

Similarity of David and Elizabeth's words in greeting Mary and speaking of the Ark.
luke 1
43. "And how has it happened to me, that the mother of my Lord would come to me?

2 Sam 6

9. So David was afraid of the LORD that day; and he said, "How can the ark of the LORD come to me?"

John leaps before Mary who contains the Lord in her womb.
Luke 1
44. "For behold, when the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for joy.

David leaps before the ark in which the Lord resides.
2 Sam 6
16. Then it happened as the ark of the LORD came into the city of David that Michal the daughter of Saul looked out of the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart.

Mary stays with elizabeth for 3 mo.

56. And Mary stayed with her about three months, and then returned to her home.

The Ark stays with obemedon for 3 mo.

11. Thus the ark of the LORD remained in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite three months, and the LORD blessed Obed-edom and all his household.

Too many coincidences here for one to not draw a parallel. This has significance in Catholic theology. If anyone expresses an interest in the topic I will explain more.

Blessings

I'll fix this later :-D

I already explained to Thess this was in reference to my post not his. (I wrote a post at 1:00 AM messed it up and didn't want to stay awake any longer than I already had) Sorry Thess.

The question is what do they mean? Everything in scripture has meaning. The birth of Abraham's son's was given meaning by Paul in Galatians. Peter gives deeper meaning to the meaning behind Noah and the Ark in 1 Pet 3. Jesus gives deeper meaning to the story of Jonah, stating that it is a forshadowing of his three days in the belly of the earth.

I had a long post written up in this regard and hit post, but unfortunately it didn't take. I will redo it later. Stay tuned.

Yep, just like Genesis 3:15-16 and Joseph's dream in Genesis 37 shed light on the meaning of Revelation 12.

Sorry it took so long to flesh this out from my perspective. I had a respoinse typed up and tried to post it before and it got lost. My second try:

So now the question is what is the significance of the parrellel between 2 Sam 6 and Luke 1. I would not say that this is the only way the passage can be seen but it is clear that Luke is drawing a parrellel between Mary and the Ark of the Covenant. Now the Ark was built by the specifications of God out of the most precious materials and to the dimensions he set. It was considered so holy and pure that noone could touch it or they would die. The Ark was called "The God Bearer. In the ark were contained the tablets upon which the commandments were written, the staff of Aaron, and the mana. We find this out in the book of hebrews.

Heb 9
[4] having the golden altar of incense and the ark of the covenant covered on all sides with gold, which contained a golden urn holding the manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant;

These were of course symbols of Christ. Now we must ask is it illogical that God would not create a woman specially for his son of great purity. This is strong evidence for the Catholic views on Mary. There is much more that I have not said that affirms Catholic thinking on her. She was seen as Ark of the New Covenant (i.e. the God bearer) very early on in Church history.
