25 Essential Windows Tricks

Thanks Lewis! Great advice. I've got Vista so I may need to utilise a lot of those tips ;) :D.

Hanging out for win7.

But I do have something to say about the recommendation to upgrade win7 to 64-bit - in terms of speed, the article is right, it is faster as it detects more RAM and makes better use of hte processors etc, but my only problem with running 64-bit is that there is limited application support for it. :shrug. Your thoughts?

In general, having minimal programs launch at startup, closing programs that you're not using, and keeping a close eye on the amount of CPU being used, will help you keep your system running faster.
For a lot of people it's the startup programs. All of the Instant Messaging softwares eat up a ton of your PC. Honestly, the only programs running at startup should be your system programs, the ones that HAVE to run at startup.
