Bible Study 3 John 9-10

3 John 1:9-10
King James Version (KJV)
9 I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.
10 Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.
3 John 1:9-10
New American Standard Bible (NASB)
9 I wrote something to the church; but Diotrephes, who loves to be first among them, does not accept ]what we say. 10 For this reason, if I come, I will call attention to his deeds which he does, unjustly accusing us with wicked words; and not satisfied with this, he himself does not receive the brethren, either, and he forbids those who desire to do so and puts them out of the church.

9 Diotrephes caused trouble in the church, among the believers. He had a self pride and wanted to be better than anyone else, knocking people down to build himself up. He did what he wanted and saw was right, he followed after a gospel he had not the gospel that was given. Many people today are like this man they want top be noticed and they want to following their own view of what is right and not what exactly what the word says is right. They follow their own feelings more than the leadership from the Spirit.

10 Like this man these people need to hear the truth even if they refuse it. If they do refuse it they need to be dealt with by God and need prayers for them to see the truth. People who preach and live by a different truth don’t need to be leading those who follow the truth. People who follow their sins will look to blame those who do teach the truth they reject. When they don’t find anything they will make things up. Some people have too much power and they need to be left with those who follow a lie because they become apostate. The Lord can bring people out of the apostate into the truth. Many people who follow in the darkness are not aware of this darkness and they will have a hard time accepting they have been deceived but some will.

:goodpostRight on my friend! In the first two churches that I was the pastor, had this on the sign outside the building. "First Baptist Church. Independent, Fundamental, Bible believing". I was in fellowship with the "Independent Fundamental Churches of America". They, at that time were the most legalistic group of pastors I had ever met. Secondary separation was the massage in most of the "Pastor Conferences" I attended. Many of the pastors had graduated from Bob Jones University, the hallmark of legalism. The Lord had to put me through some tough times to teach me that my theology in those areas was sinful.

So Diotrephes and I would have made a good team. Praise God, I'm not what I should be, but I'm not what I used to be.
