Here is the amazing thing about Easter; the Resurrection Sunday for Christians is this, that Christ in the dying moments on the cross gives us the greatest illustration of forgiveness possible. T. D. Jakes

O my, when Christ said....Luke 23:34 Then said Yahshua Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do....Considering what a beating Jesus went thru, could any of us say what our Savior said?

We won't be arguing that in this thread. Not important as we look forward to the day when we observe the Passion of Christ. But it is interesting to know the origin of the word Easter non-the-less.

Easter
Easter, also called Pascha or Resurrection Sunday, is a festival and holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day of his burial after his crucifixion by the Romans at Calvary 30 AD. It is the culmination of the Passion of Jesus, preceded by Lent, a forty-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance.

The purpose of this thread isn't to discuss the proper or improper use of the word Easter for the Resurrection of Jesus. Like many, I didn't know the origin of the word. I grew up recognizing that Easter is about the death, burial, and Resurrection of our Lord. The purpose of this thread is to ready our hearts toward that day when we celebrate that HE IS Risen! He has risen indeed!!

What a blessed thing it is to be called a child of God! Oh how I need Him today! What a comfort it is to know I can go to my Father and know I go as HIS child! Amazing.

I have heard many approaches to this issue , I think you addressed it very peaceably.
"Buona Pasqua" is what my family says, as Italian is our second language, more so from my husbands side , all his family is from Sicily. I am only part Italian , french creole is my second part. If I may elaborate, I know you said this is not the place, but something came to me when reading your response. Easter derives from the word Esotre who was a goddess of fertility for pagan Greeks, and also the word means East concerning the rising of the sun. Easter is the masculine form of Esotre, in English= East. My point Esotre is the feminine form of the Greek usage of east. Since all things are given to Christ concerning fullness of deity and power He is the God of the East and all fertility concerning fruitfulness of the soul. He is therefore, the God of the East, not only that North, South and West. Easter just means god of the East, He is! He is the rising Son (Sun) and the setting son resting in our hearts.
Oh, another thing-spring represents birth and renewal the resurrection is this,and is why it is in spring. He Christ , has taken all glory from pagan gods and brought it unto Himself = fullness of Deity! Thank you for your lead which brought me to think of this God Bless!

Easter is mentioned in Acts....Act 12:4 "And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people." (KJV)
 
1 Corinthians 15:20 -22 NKJV

Grace has to do with it all being Him. He does it. Not us. Grace is always a surprise. You think it’s not going to happen, and it does. Jesus wasn't on the cross for His sins, He was there for ours. That's a sobering reminder of His sacrifice. He bore our sins, we wear His righteousness. The Great Exchange!

Christ didn’t just take our sins upon Himself, He became those sins for us. Imagine how dirty and vile and evil and guilty and ashamed Jesus must have felt as He hung there before a holy God with our sins exposed as though they were His! Ann Graham Lotz

He became sin so that we could become righteous in God's eyes. Jesus was exposed to the world, physically beaten and naked, a humiliating experience, but it didn't compare to the brokenness that came with bearing our sins and all the shame that comes with that. The sacrifice of Jesus was greater than we can imagine and our salvation, paid with a precious price, a true treasure, given to us freely, by God.
 
How deep that goes. Makes you understand even more just what our saviour suffered, and the love He must have for us who don't deserve it. But all glory will be His and He more than deserves it.
 
I so agree with Papa's last post. When I think of all the time that Jesus spent on this planet, knowing full well what He was here for, and knowing the terrible abuse that was in front of Him. Who, other than Jesus could have continued on that road.

There are times when, in the Scripture, I read of Jesus being seated in the heavenlies seated with His Father, I say in my heart, "O Jesus, I'm so glad that You're safe from those cruel men. They can't hurt You any more".

The law can't save us. Even David, a man after God's own heart, sinned greatly. We learn from him that God seeks a contrite heart and a broken spirit before Him. We should do a study some day on that very thing. That God seeks a repentant heart that agrees with His heart! Praise God that Jesus provided a way!

By His death He provided the way for us to be reconciled to God. And when we have peace with God, we have peace in our hearts—and peace with each other. This happens as we repent and receive Christ. The war is over, for God extends a peace treaty to all who come to Christ. BILLY GRAHAM
