A conversation I just had stricken me back.

1Ti 4:1 ¶ Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

I think I will trust in God, and His word. I think I will also fry up some bacon as I sing praises unto the Lord.

Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

Hmmmm... I've got Soy, Worcestershire and liquid smoke on my shopping list. Gonna make beef jerky this week.

What's that? Abstain from meat? I think, "not gonna do it," about that. God has created this to be received with thanks; I will thank Him for every bite.

fry up some bacon as I sing praises unto the Lord.

Good that, but just don't do it nakee. OUCH!

Heb 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

THIS WILLFUL SIN, IS TURNING FROM GRACE BACK TO THE "STRENGTH OF SIN" THE LAW, AND ACCOUNTING THE BLOOD OF JESUS AS NO BETTER THAN THAT OFFERED IN THE LAW, AND RESISTING AND REJECTING THE GRACE THAT OVERCOMES SIN.

THIS IS THE CLEAR CONTEXT, AND PAULS MOST COMMON WARNING TO ALL.

Hi! Coincidentally, I just posted a question related to this topic, then I run into this post. So glad I did! I see what you are saying here, and thanks a lot for this very thorough explanation, but, just like YosefHayim, I was terrified at the thought of interpreting the verse in the way the "Stranger" interpreted it. So I would like to know, what exactly does it mean "TURNING FROM GRACE BACK TO THE STRENGTH OF SIN". Im still a little confused as to what it would mean for a Christian to willfully sin after having known and accepted Jesus sacrifice.

Well no doubt Paul best explains this in the book of Galatians. When a believer who has been justified freely by the Grace of Christ, and "turns" from that grace that justifies them, into some other standard by which they seek to be approved, whether it be by the written code of the law, or some other standard that comes from mans religion, they have in fact fallen from grace, they are cut-off from Christ. For in that when one leaves the "law of faith" and turns back into the "law of works'' they are commiting this sin of unbelief in which is adressed throughout the book of Hebrews. No doubt this letter was intended to warn those who had been under the law, had accepted Christ, justified by Christ and now was turning back into the law. Which is not of faith.

Ohhh. I see what you are saying. I get it. So basically this would happen to people who decide not to believe in the fact that Jesus' sacrifice saves and resolve to go back to some other form of getting their "salvation". This is horrible! Just thinking about not having Jesus to save me makes me extremely sad. Is it possible to not follow God's will at all and still in your heart love God?? How do you know if you still love Him??

Sure, read the book of Hebrews from the beginning to the end, it is speaking to "hebrews" who have accepted Christ and where washed and justified by faith in His Blood, but where turning away and returning to the "law of works" the written code of moses. We see "the sin" mentioned throughout this letter is the sin of unbelief. THE LAW IS NOT OF FAITH.

1 Receive one who is weak in the faith, but not to disputes over doubtful things. 2 For one believes he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats only vegetables. 3 Let not him who eats despise him who does not eat, and let not him who does not eat judge him who eats; for God has received him. 4 Who are you to judge another's servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand. 5 One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he who does not eat, to the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks. Romans 14:1-6

Notice is verse 2, that the person who has a "special" diet is considered weak in the faith.

Likewise, those that need to observe "special days" or wear "special clothing" and so on, seem to need an external "thing" to validate their faith.

For the Law is not of faith.

and again -

... for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11:6
