A Cup of Coffee and Jesus

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark,
Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a
solitary place, where he prayed. (NIV) Mark 1:35

The first thing that I do each morning is head
straight to the coffee maker for a good cup of
coffee. I love my coffee in the morning! The smell of
fresh brewed coffee is a welcome sign that the day
is beginning. I relish being able to leisurely enjoy my
coffee and I allow few interruptions to that ritual.

What is the first thing you do each morning? Hop in
the shower? Wake the kids up? Hit the snooze button
on your alarm to steal another 5 minutes of sleep?
Turn on the TV? Check your email? Read the
newspaper? Enjoy a cup of coffee? And after that,
what does your morning routine look like? Does it
include spending some time with God? How often do
you check in with Him to get in sync. . .find out His
plans for your day. . . and enjoy a time of peace and
refreshment amidst a chaotic world?

Here is the challenge: Beginning tomorrow, have your
cup of coffee with Jesus. . . get up earlier, even if it
is just 5 minutes, and use that time to connect with
God. Try reading a Psalm a day or a few paragraphs
in one of the Gospels, but make sure that each
morning you're spending at least 5 minutes with your
focus on Him. I'm going to check back with you next
month and see how it is going! For I am convinced
that those of you who are seeking God with all your
heart will find Him! (Jeremiah 29:13)
