Our struggles are many, and many areas make for different topics. This topic has to do with the fulfillment of Biblical prophecy and prophets.
One struggle we have in life is that our human nature desires attention; we’ve all heard a child call out, “Mommy, daddy, watch meâ€.
Prophecy entices this part of human nature. It’s all about curiosity for some and the many who look for explanation can find all they want from those who want the attention. So one must ask themselves, ‘Is this about a person seeking attention’(in which case its about themselves), or, ‘Is this person truly concerned about thwarting deception and is God prophesying through them’?
We are warned to make sure we are not deceived and led astray by false prophets, and false teachers.
Matt. 7:15-20, James 3:1, Col.2:8.
We should all understand that God chooses His servants according to His will. Those who chose themselves are deceiving themselves as well as others. I’m concerned about the latter. Deception is insidious in its progressive nature. There are those who are not aware that they are deceived and speak presumptuously in the Name of the Lord; not driven by the Holy Spirit, but by this attention seeking nature.
2 Peter 1:20,21- Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carries along by the Holy Spirit. NIV
The book of Revelation has been explained in so many ways that it remains a mystery and no one can prove they really understand it, they can just claim they do. So I appeal to you to consider what you can be sure of for the sake of gaining discernment.
Allow me to begin with Moses because most of you know him as a chosen servant of the Lord. At the Red sea God told Moses to hold out his staff and then parted the sea. This is God manifesting His will through Moses’ obedience. In Exodus 17:10-13, we find as long as Moses holds his hands in the air Joshua and his army are winning, and when Moses drops his hands, Joshua and his army begin losing. So Aaron and Hur hold up Moses hands for him and Joshua defeats the Amalekites. My point here is that Moses is an instrument of the Lords Righteousness, but the detail here is that even if Moses wanted to hold his hands in the air, he is human and you can only do that for so long before you just plain tire out and drop them. So it’s not Moses will here that is at work, because when Aaron and Hur hold up his hands for him (even though that action is of their own freewill), Joshua wins the battle. Is it Moses’ hands in the air that win, or is it God’s will because Moses’ hands are in the air? My detail point here is that God manifests His will through our actions. Yes, God can do without us, but more often than not throughout the Bible, God works through us.
The fulfillment of prophecy has it’s origin in the will of God manifested through His chosen servant(s). Most prophets first response to God is generally, “Not me, find someone elseâ€. They don’t want the task, duty, or job. Jonah tried to run from his task and God got him to repent through humility, and Jonah’s repentance sent him back to Nineveh. Again we see God using His CHOSEN servant.
Daniel 12:4 But you, Daniel, close up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge. NIV
Daniel 12:9 He replied, “Go your way Daniel, because the words are closed up and sealed until the time of the end. NIV
Twice we are told that the words are closed up and sealed. KJV “the words are shut up and sealedâ€.
Just how valid do you think explanations of prophecy are?
I have been given understanding from God, and what I hope all of you will value, is this;
I am not permitted to speak of it. Because I understand it, I understand why I am not allowed to speak of it. The reason it cannot be spoken of is that the time has yet to reach its fulfillment. When the time comes, so will the fulfillment, and it will be made known.
I think it’s good that people discuss and debate about prophecy, but there is an inherent property that tags along with explanations; you are not permitted to know. If you claim to know (and you may know some) and are doing what James warned about in 3:1 (considering yourself a teacher) then consider what Peter says:
1 Peter 1:10-12 Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow. It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told to you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. EVEN ANGELS LONG TO LOOK INTO THESE THINGS.
And Peter continues…
Verse 13 Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed.
Whose Revelation is it? What is it you long to look into? To who is it revealed? Who breaks the seals?
It is a dangerous road to walk upon.
