These verses are hard the last time I read Jeremiah, and their still hard today. Any insight is welcome.

First is Jeremiah 48:10, which is said in the context of a prophesy against the nation Moab.

A curse on anyone who is lax in doing the Lord’s work!
A curse on anyone who keeps their sword from bloodshed!

The second is Jeremiah 46:28, which is in the context of a prophesy against Egypt while Isreal was taken capitive or fled from Babylon.

Do not be afraid, Jacob my servant,
for I am with you,” declares the Lord.
“Though I completely destroy all the nations
among which I scatter you,
I will not completely destroy you.
I will discipline you but only in due measure;
I will not let you go entirely unpunished.”

(Both quoted from NIV)

The troubling thought is that though are in the context of prophecies for other nations and prophecies in the context of Isreal's Exile, these two verses seem to speak outside of just that context.

1Sa 15:8 And he took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.
1Sa 15:9 But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them: but every thing that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.
1Sa 15:10 Then came the word of the LORD unto Samuel, saying,
1Sa 15:11 It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the LORD all night.

Some uneducated thoughts... When God tells us to get rid of sin He means it.. King Saul did it his way and was wrong.. King Saul hung on to his thoughts his ways not the Words of the Lord.. The 'other nations' IMO represent sin.. ( i believe they were real places with real people) All though the history of Israel we can read of the 'children ' keeping just a little bit of this or that.. and the trouble it causes ...

Sin has no part in the Kingdom of God Thank You Lord for Your great Grace..

Thankyou Reba. I think that's some good insight. Any thoughts on the second verse too? (I accidentally posted the OP before I was done with it, do it might not have been noticed?) With the prophecy to distroy the nations Isreal is exiled to, my consideration is is this just while they were exiled because of Babylon? Or is it also for after Jesus came and Isreal fled the persecution of the Roman Empire, followed by a history of being scattered among the nations of the world?

I see the Cross of Christ as the center of God's history.. OT looks to the Cross the NT looks to the Cross.. . God has had a people from creation.. In God there is one people that is my personal view so what i say will have that perception.. Not every one see it that way but lets not go WAY off topic..
There will come a time when the 'world' will be destroyed. History shows us this .. The flood was a biggy; Jericho ... Pharaohs army .many other examples of God cleaning up ... before the Cross..
Looking at the time of Christ, His Cross, the whole thing.. Laws went to the background and Grace envelops us, Praise to the Most High..
We ,we meaning Gods people from Adam to you, are now scattered among the nations. scattered among sin.... I see parallels between the Children of Israel and the Church.. the ebbs and flows.. the Children got complacent wanted to be like everyone else so they got Saul even before king Saul they had highs and lows the lows came for incomplete obedience.

Do not be afraid, Jacob my servant,
for I am with you,” declares the Lord.
“Though I completely destroy all the nations
among which I scatter you,
I will not completely destroy you.
I will discipline you but only in due measure;
I will not let you go entirely unpunished.”
Does nt this sound like a promise to the Body of Christ .

John Gill writes....
Jeremiah 46:28
"Fear thou not, O Jacob, my servant, saith the Lord, for I am with thee,.... Though afar off, in foreign lands, and in captivity: this exhortation is repeated, to strengthen their consolation, and them, against their fears of being cast off by the Lord:

for I will make a full end of all the nations whither I have driven thee; the Babylonians and Chaldeans are no more:

but I will not make a full end of thee; the Jews to this day remain a people, and distinct from others, though scattered about in the world:

but correct thee in measure; with judgment, and in mercy:

yet will I not leave thee wholly unpunished; See on Jer_30:11."
