A Hacked Car

Not lthe old order.
So they never borrow a non-Amish's (I think the Amish call the rest of us "English") telephone or wouldn't even send someone a letter since the postal service would use modern methods of delivering it? They don't accept rides in the cars of the "English"? The food they grow or the things they manufacture don't get sold in stores that rely on electric lights, refrigeration, English employees who got to work in cars, etc? They never travel on roads build by modern machinery or purchase anything at all that has been made by modern methods? That would be pretty hard core I think!

But you are right, people who truly live like this would be the least affected by things like a power grid outage, even if it was long term. Computerized cars would be pretty far down on the list of worries for them too!

Just think what would happen to the drivers of electric cars and, later on, those Google cars that have no steering wheels or brakes, just an on/off switch.

I think they have telephone shacks but there are not many. They totally live off the land and animals. No electricity and many probably do not have indoor toilets.

That would be strange.I wonder if there would be less accidents?

I rather doubt there were be fewer accidents; I suspect there would be more accidents as the Google car tops out currently at 20 mph. Basically, it would be for use on in-town/city streets. However, if it was a traffic hazard (doing 20 in a 45 zone, for example), there might be the potential of a ticket for driving as a hazard. Who knows, tho. Before the car is released as mass-produced, the top speed could possibly be increased.

Yes,when I am going the speed limit and that is a risk I can not imagine anyone making it out alive with going 20MPH.

The Google car I watched in action (on a talking head show) was a 2-seater....very tiny. I can only imagine what EMT workers think of this. If certain car makes/models are currently referred to by EMT as 'metal coffins' ... the little 2-seater Google car probably has a more dire nickname.

Are they simiar in size to the Smart Cars?

Yes, they are. They kinda look like a much smaller VW beetle

When I see those Smart Cars going down the street it makes me nervous. Can you imagine them in a accident going 60 miles an hour?

I don't even want to think about the results of a Smart Car in an accident. Nasty image! I have seen some buffeted by the winds on the highway, and that has been rather disconcerting to view.

I was trying to find a link to the video I saw several months ago but couldn't. It was a test of a smart car being hit at moderate speed by a normal compact car (Something like a Toyota if I remember right). Can't remember the speed, but it was slower than freeway speeds. When the two hit, the compact car had a lot of damage but nothing that would have killed or seriously injured the passengers and it stayed under control until it stopped. The so called "smart" car was totally demolished and was sent off spinning like a top, bouncing all over the place totally out of control. It didn't look like anyone inside of it would have survived but if they did, they would have been very badly injured.

Have to admit those first couple of videos make them look a lot safer than did the video I saw before! I'll still stick to my 1 ton diesel pickup running on 100% biodiesel made from 100% recycled vegetable oil, thank you. But I doubt I would survive hitting a concrete barrier at 70 MPH even in that!

I will stick with my Toyota thankyouverymuch :erm
