I know that most would not agree wit this:

Proverbs 20:3 says: "Avoiding a fight is a mark of honor." A lot of times, we think that winning a fight is a mark of honor. That's not really winning. You make yourself feel good, but it doesn't strengthen the relationship. The real way to win is to walk away, to take the high road. That's a mark of honor.

There are several ways to avoid a fight. However, sometimes to stop a fight down the road, a smaller fight now, to put things on the table is worth doing. I only say that though because if we only avoid fights, some issues don't get resolved or sometimes even get worse. If we are wise we can solve those without fights also. Personally, I am not that wise. (Just speaking from experience.)

For everything else from walking away; seeing it from the other's perspective; calming yourself like counting to 10; or making friends with the other person are great tools to keeping the fights at bay. Follow the golden rule and there will be very few fights anyways.

"And now, Lord, for what do I wait? My hope is in You. Psalm 39:7 NASB

As a young man I was three tours in Vietnam and our mission there was to stop the fight but for a number of reasons we failed. I refused, only once, to fly, know always that my chances of not dying in a crash were, only, just above nil. The ship I refused to fly that day crashed a short time latter with an engine failure.

Since being home I have walked away from a man with a .38 Special and him shooting the entire time. Most of my bar fights have been me stepping in when two or more were pounding on one man, there are exceptions but only two in seventy years.

Warriors always try to prevent a fight but! But should be spelled with all twenty-six letters because it is such a huge word. One of those two fights was with a man pounding his wife and the other the fool would not sit down and landed a punch on my face. There is a time to stand and refuse to yield. Wisdom, the result of the Proverbs Teaching, is knowing the difference.

I think Joel's trying to say, we can at times choose to be the others' fool - for the sake of peace.

Classic,
I am sorry but Joel is not a man of God's choosing. Joel is a very good Inspirational Speaker but, unlike his dad, he has nothing to do with teaching the Word of God.

Well. I know diddly about him, but he has ministered some sense to me.

Don't we pray for him?

Yes, but he is not God's minister with a Leadership Team and church full of homosexuals. This is not an empty charge but is well known in SE Texas where I live as people that thought he was ministering to them have reported this truth as they leave his influence. Pray for his soul but until he falls on his face and repents all else is folly.

I've been in fights. The last one I walked away from. Not that long ago, I'm sorry to say. Two young fellas wanted to pound me, but I said I didn't want to fight. They said that wasn't good enough, so I said I was a Christian, and they finally broke off the attack in mid-step. I'm genuinely glad there was no fight, I'm getting too old to even enjoy it.

There was no need to mention my black belt in karate.

LOL!!!!! Before I gave my life to the LORD I entertained with my voice and guitars. I would sometimes try to get them to move on by explaining I was a test combat vet but that seemed to excite the dummies. I will never understand people that want to get hurt. Win or lose, I always had pain afterward... dumb!

Ain't that sad? This is why I should intensify my prayer. But one thing is certain: Jesus Christ's church shall match on, the gates of hell shall not prevail against it - He shall Heal his own church.

At times we let God fight his fight.

Backing out does not reduce one to a weakling effete in the body...
It can bring the bad boys down on their knees until they beg. What manner of man backs out from a combat, they would ask: the one whose life Christ has transformed. Not that we won't be wise in defence though...however it shouldn't be the first of the firsts.
