Channel 4 hopes the film, Saving Africa's Witch Children, will have as much impact as last year's Dispatches documentary, China's Stolen Children.

The new programme...... will look at the phenomenon of children who are blamed for catastrophes, death and famine and branded witches in some of the poorest parts of Nigeria.

Saving Africa's Witch Children follows Briton Gary Foxcroft, who has devoted his life to raising money to help the children and who works with Nigerian Sam Itauma, who runs a shelter for children accused of witchcraft.

The documentary will feature shocking stories of torture inflicted on children, including a 13-year-old who was tied up with chicken wire and starved and beaten for two weeks, and a 14-year-old girl who was burned with acid before her mother attempted to bury her alive.

One 17-year-old was left brain-damaged after having a three-inch nail driven into her skull.

The film will feature interviews with preachers from the churches that brand children witches or wizards and charge their parents to "exorcise" the spirits.The charge £170.00 or they keep the children , until the perents can pay, pentecostal churches.

One preacher, who calls himself "The Bishop", told the programme that he had killed 110 people.

Cameras filmed him as he administered a mixture of pure alcohol, a substance known as "African mercury" and his own blood to one child accused of witchcraft.

This is completely disgusting and those "churches/pastors/christians" ARE NOT apart of the Body of Christ.

My mother for 19 years has been takin in street children in kisumu , kenya,

if you look up covenant home kisumu kenya you will see her web site,

this is not only true in Nigeria, my mother has had some very big run ins wth so called men and women of God,
false prophets bishops, corrupt officials ect.

twins to are rejected. said to be a curse, where my mother is, among the Lure tribe

My mother could not have done what she has done , with out Gods grace, she has been on the front line, time and time again, most people thought she would not last three months, 19 years later.

when kisumu became a war zone, people killed, hacked to death, bodies on the streets,

all the europeans fled, at the first sign of trouble, my mother remained, hundreds of children came to her for shelter, over 500 of the streets,

though all around her places were burnt down, looted, people killed, no one touched covenant home.

the mob would even open up and allow her vehicle through, others stopped, beaten killed, the vehicle stolen or burned out.

Thank God for his protection.

Many thanks for your very encouraging email. It is always wonderful to hear of the courageous stories of people elsewhere in the world who are fighting for the rights of vulnerable children, wherever they may be. Your mother sounds like an extremely brave and wonderful woman, who has risked her safety and security for the precious children in Kisumu. She is testament to the best of the human spirit and I wish her every success in her work.



You may be interested to know that in Akwa Ibom state, where we work, it was previously seen as a curse for twins to be born. They would often be sent to the ‘evil forest’ where they were left to die. A young missionary, Mary Slessor, from Scotland travelled to the area to live there and, like your mother, confronted church and community leaders. After years of work, the practice was eradicated and even today, twins are no more at risk than any other children in the area. Unfortunately, in the 1990’s the belief that children can be witches became endemic in the state and we now work tirelessly, taking inspiration from Mary Slessor and others like her, to ensure that the horrific abuses facing children can once again be eradicated.

I just watched a few of these youtube videos on Africa's witches. It makes me sick to my stomach. I just wanted to snatch some of those babies up and bring them home with me. Humans can be disgusting....I cannot wait for the Lord to return so we can get on to New Jerusalem where all traces of our fleshly filth will be erased.
