Jesus spoke of a future Abomination of Desolation and refered it to a past prophecy by Daniel concerning the same.....
Antiochus Epiphanes caused the first A of D by erecting a statue of Zeus in the Temple.....Legend has it that it was AE's face that was model for the visage of the statue.....He also sacrificed a pig on the holy altar.
The future antichrist will also cause an A of D and have an image created in his likeness.
Since major events in Jewish history happen on certain days....i.e. the feast days....and the 1st and 2nd temples being destroyed on the same day hundreds of years apart.....could the future A of D happen on the same day as the A of D in the past?
Here is some history and dates associated with Antiochus' A of D.
....In 167 B.C. on the 15th day of the Jewish month of Kislev, Antiochus Epiphanes entered into the Jewish temple and erected a pagan altar on the Great alter of burnt sacrifices, The altar was dedicated to the pagan god Zeus Olympus. On the 25th day of Kislev, the first sacrifice, a pig, was offered on the altar. The pig was an unclean animal to the Jews. Both the pagan altar erected in the temple and the sacrifice of a pig would be an abomination.
During his reign, Antiochus ended the Jewish daily sacrifice and outlawed observance of the sabbath and praying to God, He also murdered circumcised infants and their mothers. On the 25th of kiskev, 164 B.C., the Jewish revolt led by Judas Maccabees and his brothers regained control of Jerusalem. The Holy temple was cleansed and rededicated. Hanukkah is the celebration of this event.
Here is an interesting question I would like to throw into the mix....The former A of D had most certainly occured on Dec 25 of the year that it occured. Will the next A of D occur on a future Dec 25? Keep in mind that the antichrist will try and convince Jews and Christians alike that he is the Messiah. Why not do it on one of Christianity's most celebrated dates?
Just some food for thought.....
