I have a cousin who is in the Air Force. He is a Captain.
He is a missile specialist, and until last year he lived in missile silos four five days a week. Last year he was transferred to D.C. (which was good because it's close to home and I had never met the guy before!(He married my blood cousin)). He became an Air Force liaison to the NSA and a missile specialist for the NSA. A few months ago he was given orders to go in-country (Afgan.).
We had very little knowledge of what he was to do, everything has heavily classified. Today I finally got the scoop on what he had been doing. He is the leader of a joint task force that works with the 82nd airborne. He technically doesn't work for the Air Force right now, but for the NSA. He is in charge of gathering intel. and telling the 82nd where to drop all the bombs.
This sounds like a pretty safe job (that's what I thought, anyways) except he is stationed in a Forward Operation Base. Basically he is in a base with a wire perimeter made of tents in the middle of Taliban country. Recently they have had an increase in attacks against these kinds of bases.
He is being moved to a new FOB for the surge that is to come. He is a priority target for the Taliban, as he basically knows every where that they are.
I've begun to pray really hard for him. He just started his tour, and since it is with the NSA there is no telling how long he will be there. My uncle didn't sound very sure when he said told me he would be fine. So I am a bit worried! I'd appreciate any prayer you guys can send his way.
Hopefully he will come back fine and dandy and than he will head down to Alabama for some more officer school and than he ought to be promoted to a major. He has a PhD in the works and according to my uncle (He is a bird Colonel) my cousin is expected to make it at least to colonel himself. There is a lot of talent in him, just got to make sure he gets home to his family first!
