A Rhyme with Reason
I saw it all last week I think – a baby dedication
At a church I was invited to, to witness the occasion
A happy bunch of souls they seemed all gathered there together
“Welcome, it’s good to see you all,†and, “isn’t it lovely weather.â€Â
A song, a hymn, a word, a prayer and then an exhortation
“What next?†I thought, “Oh yeah that’s right, the mandatory donation.â€Â
At last the baby there was ‘blessed’, the part I’d come to see
“Heaven belongs to such as these, so let them come to Meâ€Â
These words of Jesus I recall, for all of us who come
Find peace and rest, tranquillity, in God through Christ His Son
This thought resounding in my mind soon faded out of view
The sermon started – The First Commandment – “Oh God what shall I do?â€Â
Do you suppose these people know the law was given to Jews?
Not likely, they’re all sitting there attentive in their pews
Perhaps they think that God is found by keeping to the letter
Galatian churches did this too, but should have known better
Hood-winked! Yes, indeed they were, in righteousness by deed
If that were true Christ died for nought, the Gospel we don’t need
I wish I’d`heard the grace of God and preaching of the cross
The Kingdom could have grown that day, instead it suffered loss
The saddest part about this case is that there’s many more
They preach the code incessantly, from every pulpit floor
I have a message for the church direct from God above
No, it’s not new nor is it old it is that God is love
He sent His Spirit like the wind, just as the bible says
It’s coming and its going hid, but God the fruit displays
There is no need for man to toil to earn this gift of life
Believing is the answer, and it saves a lot of strife
A simple faith – that of a child is all that God requires
The change will then be inside out, fulfilling His desires
