It's not a matter of men treating women as property, it's more a matter of women choosing to do that which is 'proper'.
Men were NEVER to force women into their roles that had been laid down by scripture. Women were to follow the Word for the sake of that which is 'righteous'. Just as 'slaves' were commanded to 'accept' their place in life, so too were women commanded to accept theirs.
We were warned that there would come a time that women would usurp the authority of men. There is NOTHING that men can do to change what will be. The problem lies in obedience. Women have been jealous of the relationship between man and the Creator since creation. Eve's disobedience wasn't based on anything other than her desire to be EQUAL with Adam. The serpent offered something even greater than equality with Adam. The serpent offered equality with God. This proved irresistible to Eve.
Women today are in the same mindset as Eve. They don't only want equality with men, they want superiority to men. They are being betrayed once again by the serpent into believing that what they WANT is what matters. When in truth, if women wish to find their 'true' place, the Word has NOT changed in the least. Society has changed, but God has NOT in the least.
Paul explains how women are to receive their reward. Unfortunately for those that exist today, this is NOT what is taught by society, parents, or even the church itself. Christ stated that to follow Him would be to suffer. We have tried to completely remove ourselves from suffering to the point that these words of Christ are all but completely ignored now. There is no more suffering for His sake. And it all boils down to self. What pleases ME. How will I benefit from the decisions that I make. The will of God is no more important to mankind today than it was to those at the time of Christ. Less so actually. It's now simply a matter of 'what's in it for ME!
So, the answer? Yes, women 'should' still be bound by what they have been told by scripture of the past. This will have little influence on them now though for they realize that the power to 'do what thou wilt' is much more preferable to following someone or something else.
And, just to show how far removed we have become from the will of God, there will probably be many that will refute these words that I offer. It's amazing how quickly we can remove ourselves from the will of God once we place 'self' in His place. How quickly we can change and alter His words to suit our needs and wishes.
