Bible Study A Sunday School Lesson I wrote

Here's a little Sunday School lesson I just made up. Tell me what you think of it.

Unity and Concord in the Body?

I was looking up the meaning for the word, "peace", as is used in the New Testament.
I thought, being a fruit of the Holy Spirit, and being a directive from Jesus, to be at peace,
have peace in your heart, and to be a peacemaker, that this word meant to be at rest,
ease, and security. To feel calm, and secure, no matter what.
I found I was wrong.
Peace means one of these, depending on where it's used: unity and concord, completeness(shalom),
to make peace, to desire peace, or to keep silent. Only once does peace mean rest, ease, and
security, and that's in Daniel, talking about the beast! (antichrist) The beast that will crush and devour, and break in pieces.

So when you read the word peace, in, Phil. 1:2, 4:7, 2 Thess. 3:16, Titus 1:4, Gal. 5:22, Romans 14:19, you could say: UNITY, because mostly, in the N.T., peace means unity and concord.

The fruits of the Holy Spirit: love, joy, peace, long suffering, to mention some of them.....
Love means to love the brethren, brotherly love, to be a friend:agape, philadelphia, and phileo.
Joy means gladness, joy, thankfulness, to leap for joy, or to rejoice.
Peace means, in many instances, unity and concord
Long suffering: OT-erek aph, length of face or anger
NT- makrothumia, long suffering means to suffer long.

That's as far as I got, looking up the actual meaning of these words. Now, I understand more.

Some verses you might find helpful:
Mark 9:50, Phil. 1:2, Phil. 4:7, 1 Peter 3:11, Col. 1:20, 3:15
I know I have peace with God,now that I'm born again. Peace, with God, through Jesus Christ.

Peace: Gal. 5;22
Eph. 2:14
Eph 6:15-preparation of the gospel of peace

Peace, as a FRUIT of the Spirit, means unity within the body of believers. When a part of your body is
sick, or hurting, or diseased,
your body is not unified in it's purpose.

I mean, if you give yourself a
paper cut, your whole mind is all of a sudden focused on that little, but painful, paper cut, so, you are
using up a lot of extra time and energy, fussing about the paper cut, when, you should just clean it,
bandage it, and then get back to your business.
**********************************************************************************
If people in the body of Christ commit sin, cause fights and disunity, there is not the peace, the unity and concord,
available to it's fullest extent, and the body has to once again use up extra energy to calm and reharmonize
the sinning believer. We, as servants of the Most High God, should learn how to keep silent, how to discern between good and evil, we should deny ourselves worldly pleasures, like, going to the movies, (full of sinful sex, filthy communication, violence, vengence),watching hours of tv,
hours watching sports, emulating or idolizing sports figures or movie stars, taking recreational drugs,(as opposed to a prescription for a SPECIFIC illness) drinking alcohol just for something different to do, causing strife, griping and complaining, over and over, being unthankful, using our eyes to gratify some lust, like, sex, porn,(did you know that sex outside of marriage is a separate sin, and named as a sin against GOD directly?) food,(as in gluttony) money,(as in stepping on people, being sinful, to obtain money) status symbols (do we drive around judging others we see, by their car, do we judge others based on their clothes, jewelry, computer, shoes, house? That's SIN.)
All of these activities are named among Christians, and the bad thing about it, is,
THEY AREN'T ASHAMED! See how the devil works? He hardens their hearts through the deceitfulness of sin! They become openly rebellious, wiping their mouth, so to speak, and
claiming, "I've done NOTHING wrong!"
They just keep dragging their wedding garments through the hog pen, back and forth,
up and down the piles of dirty slime, and make excuses, rather than repent, and grow up in Christ, and become mature Christians.
I'm guessing a few church leaders who are mature in Christ, are weary of these Christians
who clamor to be bottle fed years on end. I don't know, but, I would be.
All of the above mentioned sins that, sadly, are named among some Christians, do not make for unity.
Christianity is not a game, it isn't a part-time hobby.
