Job was made as an example of vanity. As he spoke of himself, made to possess months of vanity, difficult nights, and loathing life, his days being vanity.
Job was answered, how in the visions of the night, the ears of man are opened, to seal their instruction, withdrawing man form his purpose, ( the purpose Job was in) to hide pride from man.
Man is chastened with pain upon his bed, ( as Job was showing before.) his bones have strong pain, so mans life hates bread, mans soul does not want his delicate food.
Job 7:3 So am I made to possess months of vanity, and wearisome nights are appointed to me.
Job 7:16 I loathe it; I would not live alway: let me alone; for my days are vanity.
Job 33:15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;
16 Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction,
17 That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.
18 He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.
19 He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain:
20 So that his life abhorreth bread, and his soul dainty meat.
We have necessity of patience, ( Hebrews 10:36.) to establish our hearts, the Lord is near, we cannot be against one another, or we may be condemned, the judge is at the door, we take the prophets as an example of suffering affliction, and of patience, we heard of the patience of Job, the Lord afterwards is pitiful and of tender mercy. ( after our affliction, suffering, hiding of pride from man, his purpose/vanity.)
James 5:8 Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.
9 Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door.
10 Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.
11 Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.
The lying lips speak proudly, those who fear the Lord are hidden in the secret of HIs presence, from the pride of man, kept secretly from the strife of tongues.
Psalm 31:18 Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.
19 Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men!
20 Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.
The preacher continued after his father king David. The preacher said, all is vanity.
The sun is constantly moving, the wind whirs about continually, all rivers run into the sea, but the sea is never full, the rivers return to where they came from.
All of ,life is full of labour, mans eye is not satisfied, nor his ear filled. ( they need to see more, hear more.)
Many things increase vanity, man cant be better for them. Mans life is vain, as a shadow.
Ecclesiastes 1:1 The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.
2 Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.
Ecclesiastes 1:5 The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose.
6 The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits.
7 All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.
8 All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.
Ecclesiastes 6:11 Seeing there be many things that increase vanity, what is man the better?
12 For who knoweth what is good for man in this life, all the days of his vain life which he spendeth as a shadow? for who can tell a man what shall be after him under the sun?
The Apostle said to us, that we from then on, do not walk as other Gentiles walking in the vanity of their mind, the understanding darkened, ignorant in blindness of heart, being past feeling, giving themselves unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
When they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure those who were clean escaped, they promise liberty, but they themselves serve corruption. They escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and became entangled again and overcome. They knew the way of righteousness, but turned from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
The dog returns to his vomit, the sow washed, to her wallowing in the mire.
Ephesians 4:17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,
18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
2 Peter 2:18 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.
19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.
20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.
21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.
