I can remember as a child, being astounded to learn that some stars had burned out long ago, and only appeared to be there; that they were so far away, their light was still making its way toward me--at 186,000 miles per second. The idea that I was looking at stars that weren't even there anymore, was a concept hard to get my mind around. Even today, it's still amazing to consider that the light from some stars has been traveling 6 trillion miles a year for thousands of years.
But that fact pales to insignificance when I consider this: everything that God intends to do with regard to us and his eternal kingdom, is already accomplished. All judgments are complete, all fates have been sealed, and We are dwelling in the New Jerusalem in eternal bliss with our Lord, even as you read these words. It just hasn't played out in time and space yet.
To the infinite Almighty, who dwells in eternity, everything is complete. I find that this perspective of things lends greater insight to a number of truths revealed in Scripture, such as:
Jesus the Lamb, having been slain before the creation of the world. (Rev 13:8)
God having foreknown and predestined His saints. (Rom 8:28-30)
Our names already being in the book of life. (Luke 10:20)
Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: (Isa 46:10)
(As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.
(Rom 4:17)
Our God is an awesome God!
