[_ Old Earth _] An issue of function by design

I'm trying to show Barbarian that Gods word gives us all of the information we need about creation..

Barbarian observes:
That's not Biblical:

Romans 1:20 For the invisible things of him, from the creation of the world, are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made; his eternal power also, and divinity: so that they are inexcusable.

And accordingly, many, many things not in scripture have been discovered about His creation that have saved lives and made others lives less painful.

tob writes:
You forgot the rest of that text..

Nope. I just cited the verse that rejects your unscriptural claim.

Romans 1:23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

Saint Paul is saying here, that those who rejected the evidence of nature gave way to all sorts of superstitions and idolatries. Creationism is only the latest of these.

You mean the way man is rejecting Gods word when he says

Exodus 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Gods people will always believe Gods word before mans theories.. but since he is rejecting his word "Jesus Christ" the judgment of God is upon the face of the earth it doesn't take science to see that..

Created by men, lab produced, custom designed, technically hacked...Oh .you mean by intelligent design? I agree this is indeed how it can happen. Now convince those who believe it all came about by random chemical coincidence and then we are getting somewhere. This is good....really good....but unfortunately it does not address the OP or answer the two additional issues we were discussing, But thanks

I'd be open to your proof that if an allegory is repeated, that makes it a literal history. What have you got?

Except of course where it happens in meteorites and on volcanic rocks. That's creation, not design.

Oh .you mean by intelligent design?

The labwork that showed it was possible, yes. In nature, no. Man, being a limited creature, much design. God creates. And I'm puzzled why you think man can design something that God cannot create.

I agree this is indeed how it can happen. Now convince those who believe it all came about by random chemical coincidence

Chemistry isn't random. Turns out, it works according to specific laws, like everything else that's natural. God made the world orderly and predictable so we could live in it. And as you know, He produced life naturally, from nonliving things.

This is good....really good....but unfortunately it does not address the OP

The fact that science is beginning to show that God was right when He said life came from the Earth as He intended, is a good thing. However, as you learned, it has nothing to do with evolution. It does again show that life was created by an omnipotent God, not some "space alien designer."

Shall we get back to evolution, or shall we discuss more evidence for abiogenesis?

or answer the two additional issues we were discussing, But thanks

Gods word an allegory?.. your reducing Gods word to a metaphor :shame its still not too late Barbarian he still has his hand stretched out to you.. What have i got? i have Gods word and i guess you have your science

Perhaps you don't know what "allegory" means. God often uses metphors, but that's not what an allegory is.:shame

its still not too late Barbarian

Everyone thinks that. But it's time for you to set your pride aside and let Him do it His way.

What have i got?

Your pride, and your revision of His word. It's not enough. Let Him decide.

In His word, God uses the poetic, metaphor, simile, hyperbole, etc., so why not also allegory? Now as I see it (MO) the only problem with allegory is that one can claim so many different interpretations...otherwise allegory works for me...after all, allegory is just a vehicle for representing a deeper truth or point...a way of indicating a deeper meaning...

So it is that in a story like that of Namaan the Syrian and Elisha....I see and believe the literal meaning and story. But I believe it to ALSO be allegorical, in that it contains many hidden applications not specifically indicated. Some see this as a story about faith, other obedience, other Baptism, others about humility and grace....I see it as all these...and I do not see the others a wrong or incorrect....is this out of step with how the LORD wants me to be? I cannot say that...
