...And The Sky Tore Open!

Life can be brutal. Nothing seems fair. We struggle for this, fight for that, push and pull our "way to the top"...hopefully, just to loose it all in a blink of an eye.

The blessing of the Lord gives wealth: hard work makes it no greater. [Proverbs 10:22 ]

You want something but do not get it, so you commit murder. You covet something but cannot obtain it, so you quarrel and fight. You do not get things because you do not ask for them! [James 4:2]

Perhaps you ask, "Why is my life so hard? Why do I always hurt so much? Why does this always happen to me?"

We live on a planet in an infinite universe; our own planet Pluto is a whooping 3.1 billion miles from earth. The Goddard Space Flight Center states that The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) site estimates there are hundreds of billions of galaxies in the universe. A recent German super-computer simulation estimates that the number may be as high as 500 billion! Wow!

You may continue to ask, "With a planet so small as Earth in comparison to the universe we live in, how could an Almighty God care about me?"

When I see your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have put in their places; What is man, that you keep him in mind? The son of man, that you take him into account? For you have made him only a little lower than the gods, crowning him with glory and honor. You have made him ruler over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet;
[Psalms 8:3-6]

In spite of the vastness of God's Creation, the unmeasurable riches of the Universe, the unanswered questions that trouble our hearts...there is one fact that's an anchor to our souls: "For God had such love for the world that he gave his only Son, so that whoever has faith in him may not come to destruction but have eternal life. God did not send his Son into the world to be judge of the world; he sent him so that the world might have salvation through him."
[John 3:16-17]

You may continue to speculate, "How do I know this to be true? Where is God anyway?"

There is a story in the Bible that 'blows me away':

Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to stop him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and are you coming to me?" But Jesus answered him, "Let it be this way for now, for this is the proper way for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then John let him. When Jesus had been baptized, he immediately came up out of the water. Suddenly the heavens opened (the Greek word used here is "Anolgo": to intensely open up, to stand open or apart, or tore apart) up for him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him. Then a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love. I am pleased with him!" [Matthew 3:13-17]

In other words, in spite of the unmeasurable vastness of God's Creation, and the smallness of size we humans are in relation, God in His Almighty Power can "tear open the Heavens in a blink of eye" as if that very vastness had no measurable size at all. What we see as unfathomable and even incomprehensible, to God it has no effect. We are as close to God as a prayer away, a simple calling out His Name....Jesus.

Our lives are not what they seem. What we see or feel or experience does not limit God within our perceived limitations. He can part the very heavens so as to execute His will; His power and ability to meet our needs are not affected by our troubles, fears, hurts, or inabilities.

So I say to you: Keep asking, and it will be given you. Keep searching, and you will find. Keep knocking, and the door will be opened for you. For everyone who keeps asking will receive, and the person who keeps searching will find, and the person who keeps knocking will have the door opened. [Luke 11:9-10]

Even if your prayers seemingly remain unanswered. Do not give up or loose faith. Trust God with all of your heart. And in His Wisdom He will direct you.

Even if the fig tree does not bloom and the vines have no grapes, even if the olive tree fails to produce and the fields yield no food, even if the sheep pen is empty and the stalls have no cattle- even then, I will be happy with the LORD. I will truly find joy in God, who saves me. The LORD Almighty is my strength. He makes my feet like those of a deer. He makes me walk on the mountains. [Habakkuk 3:17-19]
