Angel of Pergamos
These were in those days of Antipos that Christ’s faithful martyr, who was slain among you where Satan dwelleth. This was when Herod Antipas had John the Baptist beheaded, when John confronted Antipos and his brother’s wife, that the two of them had committing fornication, from marrying his brother’s wife. They had also then violated the laws of God by mixing; this was from within their own family of incest, but also through adultery of another man’s wife this wasn’t lawful.
Rev. 2:12-“And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; These things saith he which hath the sharp sword with two edges;â€Â
3:13-“I know thy works, and where thou dwelt, even where Satan seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you where Satan dwelleth.â€Â
This was also one of the laws that God had also separated, that man was not suppose to perform, as we find in the Book of St. Mark. 6:17-“For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for Herodias sake, his brother Philip’s wife: for he had married her.â€Â
6:18-“For John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother’s wife.â€Â
Now when we enter upon the Angel of the Church oat Pergamos, we also enter within another very tender subject. But we find that it was recorded in the one and only word of God going back to the tower of Babel, with great hope of disobedience to the great master we cannot overlook it by looking the other way. This is even as a few would like very much to do today, this is with man once again trying to reunite something that God had once separated. For we find that it is written, (for what God has put together let no man put asunder, and the same thing goes for what God has separated let no man try to put back together in an unjust reunion.)
When we follow after something within our everyday life, we don’t like to think that the word of God can or might in anyway be talking or going against us, a word that is coming from Christ. Here we find our Glorified Christ, and from his mouth went a sharp two-edge sword – as he spoke into these Churches of Revelation and unto the angel at Pergamos. Rev- 2:14- “But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.â€Â
Going back to the beginning before the flood God wasn’t looking at their nationality, for back in the very beginning before the Tower of Babel they were all then only one race. But with God he was then looking at the sin that was within the hearts of man, for I believe that God has no particularity in any race. For it is not God’s will that any or no one perish, but that each and everyone shall have an everlasting life, for in the end we all shall all then be like Christ. For only in the beginning did God show partisanship first to the Jews then the Gentiles, but I never heard of him looking upon any person of any one race or any certain color.
We find in the Book of Numbers, with the king of Moab knowing that the Israelites were many, and with them being very strong and mighty. This king of Moad being led by Satan was then afraid of what might become of his kingdom, so this king of Moab sent for Balaam that he might curse the Israelites – the children of God. With Balaam having the gift of prophecy over Israel, he could only do what God revealed unto him.
With the king of Moab coming before Balaam several times, Balaam could only bless the army that the king of Moab wanted him to curse. With the king of Moab going before Balaam many times, this king had much to offer him. With Balaam being very much like many of our leaders of today, with him also being a pastor or prophet of God, this greed and hunger of wealth in Balaam went very much against God’s will.
With the king of Moab he didn’t have to make many offers of wealth, by offering or giving him this great opportunity to rise up into great luxury. It was only through God that Balaam wasn’t able to curse Israel, but still he didn’t want to give up what the king of the Moab had to offer. Then it was through this greed of Balaam, that he cast a stumbling block before the children of Israel.
Balaam recommends and encouraged the Moabites to mix and to seduce the Israelites, into mixing in fornication and also by serving their false gods and serving other spirits of hope. It was from these results or these suggestions; it was from this that the Moabites seduce the Israelites into mixing by fornication, we find this recorded in the Book of Numbers. From these that died in this plague were twenty and four thousand, as we find in the Book of Numbers. Numbers 24:25-“And Balaam rose up, and went and returned to his place: and Balak also went his way.â€Â
Numbers 25:1-“And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moad.â€Â
25:2-“And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.â€Â
25:3-“And Israel joined himself unto Ba-al-pe-or: and the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel.â€Â
25:4-“And the Lord said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the Lord against the sun, that fierce anger of the Lord may be turned away from Israel.â€Â
25:5-“And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his man that were joined unto Ba-al-pe-or.â€Â
What will we be willing to give up for our inheritance, the same as the ones that built this tower of Babel and had to face the wrath of God from sin, as we find in the Book of Genesis. 11:1-“And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.â€Â
11:2-“And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.â€Â
11:3“And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar.â€Â
11:4-“ÃÂnd they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.â€Â
11:5“And the Lord came down to see the city and tower, which the children of man builded.â€Â
11:6-“And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and noothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.â€Â
11:7-“Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.â€Â
11:8-“So the Lord scattered them aboard from thence upon the earth: and they left off to build the city.â€Â
