Anointed Satan

Is Satan still the anointed cherub today?

Scripture say that the gifts and callings of God are without repentance. Hence, is this how Satan mimic some of the acts and works of God with the exceptions of miracles. I think this is why he still has the power he has. He has never had his previous anointing removed from him.

Eze 28:14 - "You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; You were on the holy mountain of God; You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones.

Ro 11:29 -For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.

MY COMMENTS: Well, my friend, I disagree with you in interpreting that passage in Ezekiel (and also the one in Isaiah 14:4-23), as also describing Satan (Lucifer in some versions).

The king of Tyre may be a type of the anti-christ to come, but this prophecy (lament) against him must be limited to just that. So much said about the king of Tyre is a metaphor, but not all. In verse 28:18ff we read in the NIV, "By your many sins and dishonest trade you have desecrated your sanctuaries. So I made a fire come out from you, and it consumed you, and I reduced you to ashes on the ground in the sight of all who were watching. All the nations who knew you are appalled at you; you have come to a horrible end and will be no more."

Does that sound like something that has happened to Satan? Of course not. He can still roam the earth and appear in heaven. He is called the god of this age; the prince of the authority of the air.

As to being "an annointed cherub", the NRSV, translated this passage this way, "With an annointed cherub as guardian I placed you."

At any rate, a "cherub" seems to be a celestial order of spirit-beings. In Gen. 3:24 they were placed to guard, to keep, the way of the tree of life; on the mercy seat they were symbols to keep (guard) the hope of Israel.

Satan is a spirit-being alright, but no place is he ever called a "cherub" or an "angel", for that matter.

Hey Bick. Good post. So what is Satan? I am curious about your take. You say he is not called an angel. Isn't he refered to as th Angel of Light? Or is Satan different form Lucifer. Are they 2 different beings?

Hi Ken. The Bible is such an amazing compilation of books and letters. From my studies, I have found no controverses between the OT and the NT concerning any subject. Of course, it is important to arrive at the most literal translations.

Let's look at the word "angel." This is the word most often translated from "aggelos" (angelos) in the NT; and from "malak" in the OT.

The words in the originals mean "messenger."

When we speak of "angel" we generally think of it being "good", not "evil."

So, in 2 Cor.11:14, lets read it this way: "For Satan himself masquerades as a messenger of light."

I have found nowhere that Satan is designated as a particular class of spirit being, such as "angel."

He seems to have two names or titles: Satan, which means "adversary", and is said to be "the accuser", "hater"; and the"Devil", from the Greek--"diabolos", which also means "false accuser."

Satan is never called "Lucifer", for if he was it would be listed in Rev. 12:9: "The great dragon was hurled down---that ancient serpent called the devil or Satan." NIV.

There are many spirit beings spoken of in the Bible, the majority having names or titles, such as:
Cherub, cherubim; Seraphim (plural for seraph); Angel (messenger); Archangel (chief messenger);
Satan (devil); demon (from "daimon"-Gk, meaning evil spirit, or foul spirit), principalities, powers, and "spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms," Eph. 6:12, NIV.

My conclusion: Satan is a created spirit being, an adversary through the ages, but who will be defeated in the end.

Where did you get your information? Isaiah 14 has more on this subject.

12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

I have always believed that ever since Jesus' time, Satan has "fallen like lightning from heaven."
Satan is out and now the work of the building of the Kingdom of God is our task.
