One day, Jesus called St. Peter to congratulate him on his excellent work managing the Golden Gates. "In fact, Pete, we feel that you should take some time off and just enjoy yourself. You deserve it", Jesus said.
"But, Lord", answered Peter, "who would man the Golden Gate while I am on vacation?"
"Don't worry about that, Pete," said Jesus. "I'll handle those duties myself until you return."
Next day, Jesus went to work at the Golden Gates. He unlocked the reception station, put on a pot of coffee and settled into the chair behind the reception window, looking out for the first visitor.
In just a few minutes he spotted an elderly man approaching up the road from earth. He looked familiar to Jesus, but he couldn't quite recall who the old man was. When the old man reached the reception window, Jesus greeted him.
"Good morning, and welcome to the Golden Gates!" said Jesus. "I feel I should know you. Are you a carpenter by trade?"
"Why, yes, I am." said the old man.
"I thought so." Jesus said. '"And did you have a son who lived a very unusual life?"
"Why, yes, I did!!" said the old man.
"Aha! I knew it." said Jesus. "And did your son have holes in his hands and feet?"
"Why, yes, he did!" said the old man.
"Dad!" said Jesus.
"Pinochio!" said the old man.
