1 Peter 2:7-8 7Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, And a stone(lithos) of stumbling, and a rock(petra) of offence(skadalon), even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

There is an interesting Greek word used here by the Apostle Peter and is translated “offence.†It is the Greek word “skandalon.â€Â

“Skandalon†carries the idea of a modern “rat trap†… In this verse Peter calls the Lord a Precious Stone (lithos). The idea of this “stone†used for the purpose of building is dropped, but the idea of “size†(rock) is retained . It is a great rocky cliff and is used with “skandalon.â€Â

This brings out the thought of the deadlines of this rocky mass for all disbelievers, those who are disobedient.
This “skandalon†is a baited trap. When the trap is sprung it kills the victum. (All who are disobedient, disbelievers.)

“By being disobedient†in this verse shows the trap will snap shut on them. They refuse to cling to the Rock of Ages, the Christ. Those who preach the gospel will put a “skadalon†in front of those who reject and are disobedient.

Although disbelieving and disobeying are different concepts, the second elucidates the first. Eve disbelieved the plain Word of God by disobeying it. The worst type of disobedience is disbelief.
The will of God is that we believe on Him whom He as sent for our salvation (John 6:40); His will is found in the Word. To believe is, first of all, to obey.
