My mama and I spent some quality time together this evening+ into the night. It was...wonderful. I realized that The Lord had changed me in ways that...she didn't have to be nervous around me, angry, make too many special accomodations, etc. Just easy, breezy conversation, some gardening...doesn't --seem-- like a big deal, on the surface, but...its huge. H-U-G-E.
My dad and I have been going for drives thru the more rural parts of the general area on Sundays. Its awesome. For a while there, we'd stop at Dairy Queen, but...now, we mostly just ride. We'll stop and he'll take pix of birds and clouds and...its...again: H-U-G-E.
The Lord --has-- changed me, in so many ways. My mom was taking a bouquet my dad got her for her recent b-day and putting the different flowers in different, smaller vases to put around the house. She gave me one small vase...red carnations...for my room. She was going to put all the vases downstairs, but then I suggested she take one up to her room+den upstairs. She smiled and picked one out to take up there.
I'm not Mother Theresa or anything, but I actually love+care about other people, starting with my mama and dad. I even complimented my mama's new hair color (apparently, its a dark mahogany brown). Small things, but I'm beginning to realize...other people matter, especially family, especially parents.
I'm thankful. She said "Love you" on her way upstairs, and I said the same to her. I'm blessed all over, and I think that one reason The Lord has been so good to me is to reach my parents through His work in my life. They --had-- a bratty, drug addled, obviously brain damaged offspring. They now have a flawed, work-in-progress son who has some good qualities, thanks to Christ. I think they have forgiven me...or, really, who I --was--....because of Christ's work in my life and in their hearts. I'm not dead eyed, balding from too much bleach+hair dye, prematurely aged, stoopid and obviously brain damaged, bratty, mean spirited...all that...all because I came to believe upon Christ as my Lord and Savior.
"Know Jesus, Know Change."
