Any ideas? (book recommendation)

Hi,

I wondered if anyone has a recommendation for a good book on reading the Bible for oneself "devotionally". I'm not looking for a book on hermeneutics, but rather a book that tackles such issues as motivation, seeming over-familiarity with the Scriptures (i.e. difficulty in day-to-day application, difficulty in finding "freshness" when reading the Bible), struggling with personal devotional times, and so on. I realise that hermeneutics should play a part in anyone's Bible reading, but I understand the basics - that's not the issue at hand.

Thanks!

Regards, inhopeofglory

I had similar issues, but I listened to a tape by John MacArthur and he gave some good advice. I started reading 1 John every morning for a week. Only 1 John (The whole chapter). He had a greater reading plan, but this got me going. Always try and lean towards reading the Bible before any other book. Most other books that promote success and motivation tend to overstep the true doctrine of Christ.
