Any self-employed folks here use "The Square" ?

A friend has a family business that accepts cash and checks thus far. He recently ran into a buddy who has a pet store and they started using The Square. It's a scan device that he plugs into his smart phone. It operates like any register credit card/debit card swiper. They also have a version that reads chips but he opted for the swipe.
My buddy has been waiting for weeks for his own Square to arrive. On researching their shipper, DHL, he found it should have arrived at his shop Friday the 4th. Turns out The Square folks put only his city/state and zip on the shipping label.
DHL must be preoccupied to not have noticed that.
Now he has to wait ten days for the new Square to ship because locally no shops have it in stock to buy with a buyers credit.

He's concerned this first impression bodes ill for the future. He's asking around his circles and I told him I'd ask in mine. So here I am.
Has anyone used The Square for their business? How do you like it? Are the fee's what is promised at their site? Troubles with getting your funds? Anything is helpful to pass on.

I was affiliated with a non profit that uses the square at events.
While I don't know the details, they love it.
There are minimal fees, but the transactions are quick and seamless.
