This is a copy of a letter I sent to FamilyNet. FamilyNet if you don't know is a Christian content television provider. (www.familynet.com)
I wrote them this letter and the subject I used was," Why is FamilyNet doing unchristian like things?"
I have yet to get an answer from them, but I wanted the public to beware. i don't want parents to go through with their children what I went through with mine.
FamilyNet has a new thing where they offer their services for free over the internet through the TVU Player.
Here is the letter:
Dear Family Net,
I am outraged and shocked at you. You claim to have wholesome family entertainment. Though your content may be o.k. your content provider is a tool of the devil.
I will explain. You have exposed my kids to lies and deception through TVU Player. I only let my kids watch wholesome Christian content. When one of my children age 13 said she found Family Net online she told me a little about it and I browsed your website. I said it was o.k. for her to watch. She has her own computer in her room where she downloaded the TVU Player.
About 30 minutes later she came to me and said, " Daddy, I can get the sci-fi channel for free! How can They do that?" I went into her room to see what she was talking about. After seeing the Sci-fi channel on TVU, I contacted the sci fi channel and asked them if this was legal. They sent me a letter back saying no it wasn't legal. They explained to me that TVU has many other channels like the Sci-fi channel (comedy central) that is premium pay for only channels. They told me that TVU itself does not broadcast these channels but users use their Broadcast software to stream what ever content they want, These users are all over the world and since TVU is in China, and they don't control the broad casted content, it is very hard to go after and prosecute the offenders.
This exposed my child to concepts of Piracy and Theft.
I had to sit my child down and explain to her what piracy means and why it is wrong and that is is stealing and lies. ( And we know Satan if the father of all lies.)
I told her if She wanted to watch Iamily Net I would have to fine another way to do it without TVU, but now, I'm not so sure.
It seems to me Family Net had to have checked out the TVU Player before becoming part of it's broadcast network. Surely Family Net noticed there is copywrited material being streamed over TVU yet they chose to go ahead and use TVU anyway.
This causes me to question Family Nets motives.
I did some research and found that TVU is one of the most popular internet tv programs with the biggest world wide user base. TVU and it's broadcasters are also AD Supported. I wonder if this choice to use TVU is based on getting the most money. (We all know the love of Money is the root of all evil)
Was the money factor strong enough for Family Net to ignore it's moral responsibility to it's user base of families?
It looks this way to me.
