They didn't use the word believe in the same sense as I believe in Santa Clause. There was evidence as well. Anyway the fibers were easily older than 6,000 years.

Not to put too much of a point on it but when I was young it appeared to me that there was evidence of Santa too.

Ho Ho Ho,

There is a difference between what a six-year-old thinks of as evidence, and what scientists require for evidence.

Perhaps it's the essential difference between YE creationism and science.

There is a difference between what a six-year-old thinks of as evidence, and what scientists require for evidence. Hence the article cited states, "...is believed to be more than 34,000 years old..."

Agreed.

Your posting style petulant this evening. Why not actually address the substance of an article rather than stick your fingers in your ears and yelling la la la la?

From the Merriam-Webster online dictionary:

PETULANT:
* Main Entry: pet·u·lant
* Etymology: Latin or Middle French; Middle French, from Latin petulant-, petulans; akin to Latin petere to go to, attack, seek  more at feather
* Date: 1598

1 : insolent or rude in speech or behavior
2 : characterized by temporary or capricious ill humor : peevish

 pet·u·lant·ly adverb

Greetings kenmaynard!

Instead of apologizing for my alleged insolent or rude behavior <because I'm not sure that we can agree about it> may I instead thank you for the lively conversations we've shared? I do appreciate the views of others and should not take it for granted when others are respectful of my opposing opinion. Certainly, some jousting of one degree or another can be expected in specific areas of the forum including the Christianity and Science threads. Believe me, at least so far as I've seen, it's not as bad here as it gets over in the Apologetics and Theology section - but that's beside the point.

If I do get "too involved" in an argument and it becomes rude or insolent I'd like to ask you to pray for me <if you are of a mind to do so, that is> or at minimum to feel free to say, "knock it off" or "Hey! Sparrow! Don't get your beak so bent out of shape."

I'll try to reign myself in and respect your request.

Cordially,
~Sparrowhawke

When a scientist says he believes something to be true in science, it means he's got a good deal of evidence to so conclude.

The discovery of such ancient fibers was a surprise to the scientists. Previously, the oldest known were imprints of fibers in small clay objects found in Dolni Vestonice, a famous site in the Czech Republic some 28,000 years old.

What a fascinating discovery. I wonder what those early people were like and how they lived. They were certainly our species, unless the Neanderthals had more civilisation that we suspected.
It is easy to understand how the age of the human species is so old because that is how God planned it, not like how we plan to make a car or a movie but by the nature of his ultimate plan of the cosmos.
