Are the Dead REALLY Dead?

THINK!

Member
According to the world's Religions (including Churchianity) they are NOT.
Why doesn't this BOTHER you; God told Adam he would DIE, not be changed into a spiritual form continuing ALIVE...

The way I understand/interpret it is that Adam would be dead to God. In other words, spiritually separated from Him.

Hello THINK!, just to be clear, is your concern in the OP with the "Intermediate State" (IOW, with the time between our physical death and our bodily resurrection from the grave), or is it your belief that this life is all that there is for us, IOW, that upon our death we cease to exist, never to rise again, physically or spiritually 🤔

Thanks!

Greeting, STW!
We die, we will LIVE again.
Notwithstanding how death was used figuratively, I don't understand your question.

THINK!
You are going to be interesting
Welcome aboard!

Most think very little. The book of church order does that LOL.
I Think some about what is being said in the middle of symbolism.

Then here you come with Think!
We may not agree on everything, but we shall see. Maybe through dark glasses ,but not blind.

You brought quite a package with you.

End of welcome.

(Are the Dead REALLY Dead ?)

It probably depends on your viewpoint.

Jesus said Lazarus was sleeping. That seems to be his view.

The disciples were told their view (he is dead)

If we Think there may be a discussion.

Is your intent to get me in trouble?

Adam was a living soul. To stay alive and continue in touch with God he had to eat of the tree of life, and not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

On eating of the tree of good and evil two things happened.
1. His evenings talking to God seemed to end.
2. His contact with the tree of life was cut off, and eventually he physically died.

Eternal spiritual life is not mentioned. The first Adam became a living soul. The second Adam (Jesus) became a quickening Spirit.
…..
Belief in Jesus work changes things, but before that.
…..
Abrahams bosom, and the total grave has to be discussed. Want to go on?

God told Adam he would DIE- not remain alive (that's what Satan told him).
Gen 2:7- And Jehovah [most translations replace it with 'the LORD] God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul [most translations replace this with 'being'].

What did God MEAN?
It's all the simple!
But men listen to other men!

Genesis 3:22 kjv

So, the Tree of Life seemed to be needed in man's nutrition in order to live eternally!

Or, the Son of God, Jesus.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved."
John 3:16-17 NKJV

Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."
John 14:6 NKJV

"Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life. I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.”
John 6:47-51 NKJV

THINK!
Genesis 3:23 kjv
23. Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.
24. So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

Are we going to use:
Positive statements
Negative statements
Double Negative statements?
Implied statements?

I was wondering if we Think! we might get the fact that without the tree of life, Adam might die (due to God’s actions).

Just trying to learn the rules of engagement.
LOL
Genesis 3:17 kjv
17. And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;

His living forever seems to have shrunk to days. Maybe lots of days, but days.

THINK!
Ecclesiastes 7:29 kjv
29. Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions.

If God (drove?) Adam out of the Garden, he wants him out. (I posted sent.

What does it matter what I Think if it does not match the scriptures?

I suppose angel guards are still talking/communications with God, and can out do Adam. (These are armed guards).

Adam might:
Tunnel to the tree?
Send in a grandson?
Con/train an animal to get tree (nut/fruit)?
(The inventive mind of Adam?)

Adam has already started to try and cover his sin. I suppose God knows his fallen nature. Thus the Ecc scripture .

The why?
To live longer?

What do you think? LOL

Hello again THINK!, I apologize, as I reread your title + OP, the topic is clearly in regards to the Intermediate State and therefore, the doctrine of the Sleep of the Soul. So, I will begin again.

According to the world's Religions (including Churchianity) they are NOT.
Why doesn't this BOTHER you; God told Adam he would DIE, not be changed into a spiritual form continuing ALIVE...
That's not true of ~all~ of the world's religions, is it, as The Jehovah's Witnesses (for one) are a religion that teaches Soul Sleep during the Intermediate State. The reason that historic Christian Church does not teach it (IOW, all of the Catholic, Orthodox, and/or Protestant churches and denominations), the Sleep of the Soul, that is, is because of what we are taught concerning the Intermediate State in the Bible.

Yes, we die, physically, such that our bodies lie interred in the ground until the resurrection at the end of the age, but we are not buried with our physical bodies and dead like it is.

As far as our progenitor Adam goes, he is dead in the sense that he no longer walks about the Earth as he once did (his physical body being buried somewhere), but he (his soul/spirit) is alive and in the presence of the Lord.

God bless you!!

Gospel of Matthew, Jesus says God is the God of the living, Abraham, issac, Jacob, etc. Thier in paradise, in heaven. Once our flesh body dies, our soul returns to the Father. The heathen believe the body sits in grave. Its ignorance. Luke chapter 16, Jesus gave analogy of Richman and Lazarus. Thiers two sides of the Gulf. The saint's in paradise. The wicked or spirtualty dead in sheol, called hell. Its holding place for the spirtualty dead or wicked. I hope this helps. Peace.
