Are we allowed to listen to secular music?

We're "allowed" to do anything we please, any time we please - whether we're Christians or not.

We are also subject to living with the "Fruits" of what we do both in the LONG and the short term.

The parable of the wise and foolish virgins is the Biblical account of that process.

The "wise" virgins didn't "Get wise" that morning. they had been developing it for years before, through the things they did, and didn't do. They were the sum total of what they had "put into" themselves, and what they "kept out".

Same with the "fools".

Both groups got up that morning, and did what was they'd trained themselves to do. Simple as that.

Romans 14 is the quick answer, however. If you have to ASK whether or not it's "O.K." for you to listen to secular music, then you're obviously NOT able to do it "in faith", and you HAVE your answer about whether it's O.K. for YOU.

Excellent post, Bob! Sums up the answer nicely. :nod

I think it is as with everything else. The question is what does the music communicate and what do you communicate to others by listening to that music. It comes down to content and message, even subliminal. If you enjoy music in which the singer curses, it tells a lot about you. However, what's wrong with listening to classical music or relaxing music?

I compose and mix music as a hobby for my own pleasure and often my friends also enjoy them.
