Growth Are you Pursuing your Vision or are you Pursuing Money?

“Where there is no revelation (prophetic vision) people cast off restraint.” (Proverbs 29:19) NKJ

Where do you focus? Is your focus on the vision that God gave you or is it on making money? Are you so afraid of failing that you will not step outside your comfort zone and serve God?

I know that many people spend their whole lives in pursuit of money. That is what we are programed to do from the beginning of our lives. It is what we learn in school. We go to school to get a good education so we can have a good career. Once we get into that career most of us don’t even like the career path we have chosen.

According to about.com people will change jobs 10 to 15 times during their careers. The average is 11 job changes. This means that people spend most of their time searching for jobs. Obviously their career choices do not lead to something that is fulfilling or they would not change jobs so many times. This is byproduct of our pursuit of the all-important dollar.

Most Christians do the same thing. I know many that change jobs all the time. Why? Because they have no vision for their lives or they are ignoring the vision that God gave them because they are afraid to pursue it. All of us as Christians should know what God wants us to do with our lives. It should be the most fulfilling and exciting path that we can follow. So few find that one thing that God has called us to do. Is it because we fear failure?

We have it programmed into our psyche that if we fail once we are a failure. Winston Churchill said, “Success is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm.” The only time you fail is if you give up. Don’t ever give up.

If you have a vision and a purpose for your life and you follow the Lord don’t you think He will provide everything you need to fulfill that vision? Why chase money all the time, why not let it chase you? In order for that to happen, you have to be on the path God chooses for you, and you need to be wise with your money. You need to know how to make it and how to spend it. You also need to know how to serve others. If you serve others God’s way, He will make sure you have the money you need. The more people you serve the more money you make.

Where do you put your focus? Is it in the pursuit of money or is it in the pursuit of serving God and others?

The more people you serve the more money you make.

I know this is not the intent, but this gives the impression that serving the Lord is all about making money.

Unless we're providing money to those we are serving, money should not be a part of the equation. Prior to receiving disability, I went a year and a half without receiving a pay check. The Lord provided for my needs and taught me how to survive in this world without money. I will admit there were times when it was a struggle, but He never left me hanging. He provided everything I needed and in the end answered a lifelong prayer. I retired at the age of 55.

It's hard to get along in this world without money, but it's not impossible. If we always put others first, the Lord will always reward us for our efforts. Even if that reward is simply a meal.
