It does worry me some. Not for myself, but I have children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters and just plain ol friends.

Being taken out by something like Ebola is a hell of a way to die..............for anyone.

Well, after hemorraging inside your body for about 1/2 hour I wonder if you would still have the same attitude about it?It would be a horrible way to die.

Any number of things could kill me sooner or later. Some of them very painful. I've never had a serious injury (seriously, the worst pain I've experienced has been stomach aches), so I have to wonder just how much physical pain I could actually handle.
But I'm not going to let the possibility of this stuff ruin my life. I'll probably be more wary around people who traveled, though, if I can help it. It does pay to take precautions.

It is easy for us to look at other states or other countries and say "this is horrible but it is not me".It takes on a very different attitude if it hits your family or you.

True enough.
And that someone was diagnosed in America is a little too close to home--I'm not saying hearing about it doesn't scare me. I just don't want it to ruin my life with fear. I suppose it helps that other than going to class I'm home most of the time right now.

And, well, I exchanged money with someone today in order to break a $10. If that person was sick or had been in contact with someone who was sick, I could get sick. (Speaking of dangerous illness in general.) Stuff like that does cross my mind. (My dad used to point things out to me like that. Even in buying from places with used stuff like the salvation army, like clothes, he'd tell me to wash them before wearing them because someone who was sick might have had them before.) But I can't stop interacting with others altogether, either.

Yes,it is like in an ICU.A person is recovering from a near fatal automobile accident. It is very common for them to say"Hey,I just never knew it would happen to me.I would read about it happening to other people and think that was sad but it is a whole different ball game for my family and myself that is me".

My stepdad was paralyzed from the waist down from an infection that settled in his spine and had to live the rest of his life bedridden, which resulted in a lot of health problems that eventually lead to his death. I'm always afraid that something like that would happen to me, but I try not to think about it too much and try to make sure I pay attention to my health. (Although I need to eat healthier and exercise more...)

EEK, shut down the world , hide and cower and cringe in fear. that will solve what?

yes take precautions as that is what quest has said but really, I have lived facing death all day long. I lived the best time in that as I was like, I might see tomorrow. best church I have ever had. didn't mean I wasn't taking the right precautions just that one cant sustain any level of fear for long. its bad for the heart.

We just need to give this Ebola incident to God.He is in control and He knows what He is doing.

Well to be honest the reason I voted "no" wasn't because the USA is actually further away from here than West Africa (distances don't matter any more these days, if it spreads in the USA, or any other western country, it'll soon reach Europe or Australia or Asia because of how much and how fast people travel in our world). And even if that wasn't so it'd still be selfish not to care about anyone in the world, no matter how far away they are, dying from such a horrible disease.

The reason I clicked "No" is because of the way that virus spreads. An infected person isn't contagious until they show symptoms, so everyone who they identified having been in contact with that one poor guy in Texas will not infect anyone else until they show symptoms, and hopefully when they do show symptoms they will remember they've been around that guy and seek medical help immediately.

Also there's some promising research, maybe we will have a cure in a few months.
I bet research funding will be stepped up a notch now that wealthy white people may be in danger... :rolleyes
