I cannot lose. I'm always a winner. Duel citizenship advantage. Lol.

In far north NZ. Was on the Goldie for a few years then come back to NZ last year. I love Australia it's a awesome place, but same with NZ and this is home and where I was born annd grew up so my heart is here.

Anyhow we good friends, Kiwis and Aussies.

the closest I get to Australia is either outback or Melbourne, fl named for Melbourne as the beloved man who it is named for moved there and they deciced since he owned the general store and ran the post office to name it for his home city. in most of my story telling of florida history you will find that towns were named for those that had either the post master, or the general store, these are Gifford, Melbourne, taintee, also with Gifford that's for another thread as that was meant as a spite.

I lived in Aussie for 11 years. I didn't want to leave but my husband got homesick. We had many friends there.
Aussie is a beautiful country.
Anyone who had red hair got called Bluey :lol

Ye ive noticed before that there is a town in Florida called Melbourne.
Can u tell the story again please?

I just had a look at google maps and can see Melbourne next to Palm Bay.

What's that Overseas hwy in south Florida? Thats looks crazy.
Heaps of bridges that hop from island to island for about 120kms it looks like

Is this a tourist hot spot? It must be.
Are u going to retire one day out in Key West or Big Pine Key?
With a nice boat for fishing and watersports, a jetski?
Looks like an awesome spot to enjoy the water with all those islands

What did they get called if they had blue hair?

Classic Aussie bogan. Lol.

Ahaha that cracked me up kiwidan. It is truly the classic Aussie bogan.
Where r u anyway? My olds are European so i don't fit the bogan image.

But 20-30 years ago there used to be heaps of bogans. With the AC/DC tshirts, acid wash jeans, mullets and the rest. Now very few remain down here in Melbourne

Your testimony provides conclusive evidence that u did live here. LoL. :biggrin2
Bluey is one of those weird Aussie things that ive never even thought twice about

So now after thinking twice about it; what? why? how?
So i searched and found this...

"Mostly coined in Australia than anywhere else in the world, ‘bluey’ is (generally) used as an affectionate nickname for a redhead.

It is thought by some to have derived from the early 1900s as a form of irony. Blue is evidently contrasting with red, thus being used as a joke.

Knowing the Aussie character and humour i would that sounds right.

Further up than Auckland on the coast. I just finished work so im at the dock going for my standard daily fish. I don't snowboard, I live too far north for any snow and I'm too lazy to travel south. I have snowboarded before it was fun.

My brother and mother are Australian. Me and my Dad are still Kiwis. Lol.

Someone beat me to the, "Oi oi oi!"

But I am thinking....there is this Australian kids show called "Bluey" ...the dog named Bluey is blue (the more red one is Bingo), but I am wondering if it has to do with the Aussie joke mentioned. Makes me giggle now.

Hi Luminous_Rose
kiwidan, from NZ beat yas all to the Oi Oi Oi... LoL

The Australia Cattle Dog is also known as a blue healer. I think that is why Bluey is a popular name for a dog here

Everyones name changes in Aussie.

John-o (John), Sam-o (Samuel), Dan-o (Daniel)

Azza (Aaron), Bazza ( Barry), Gazza (Garry/Gavin)

And there's Mickey (Mike), and so on so on.

Lol, and of course there is ol mate bluey.

Lol, I actually worked with a dude in Aussie who everyone called bluey, he only turned up to work when he wanted. He would be there one day then you wouldn't see him for a week, then he would turn up late and do like a hours work then leave , then you won't see him for a few days then he would come back and work a few days. Lol. The teams would be half way through something and he would just gap and not come back. Lol.

Then one day he left and like a year later he come back.
