I for a while thought because I had sinned willfully, I lost my salvation. But these verses say otherwise:

"Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy. You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea" (Micah 7:18,19)

About those who sin after getting saved:
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9)

"For the director of music. A psalm of David. When the prophet Nathan came to him after David had committed adultery with Bathsheba. Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge. Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me. Surely you desire truth in the inner parts; you teach me wisdom in the inmost place. Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice. Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity. Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me" (Psa 51:1-11)

Here is a great link with more on this :)

God's work in us takes a life time. Run the good race and never quit, despite inevitable failures and trials. "But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved" (Matthew 24:13). Also keep in mind the words of James, "Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him" (James 1:12).

God Bless,

"See then the kindness and the severity of God: severity toward those who have fallen, but God’s kindness to you, provided you continue in his kindness; otherwise you too will be cut off" (Rom. 11:22; see also Heb. 10:26–29, 2 Pet. 2:20–21)

I want to write about the word "saved" in Matthew 24.

13 But he that endureth to the end, the same shall be saved.
22 And except those days had been shortened, no flesh would have been saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.

The context of this salvation is citical. Notice first of all that the word saved is the same in verse 13 as it is in verse 22. The question is this, does the context demand a soteriological salvation or an eschatological salvation? In other words, is this context about the doctrines concerning salvation, or is Matthew teaching about the 2nd coming?

If this passage has a context about tribulation before the 2nd coming, it can obviously be understood to refer to the physical deliverance of the elect from those who would kill them or persecute them. The elect are not saved from sin in this salvation or deliverance, but they are saved from those who would persecute them.

Notice the concept of salvation in verse 22. This salvation required that "those days be shortened." Why would less days be required for a spiritual salvation? If the word "saved" refers to salvation or deliverance from persecutors, then less days gives the persecutors less time to track down and kill the elect. The shortening of days is then directly parallel to the coming of Jesus Christ to physically deliver the elect from their persecutors.

If this understanding is also used in verse 13, then the one who endures to the end (of the persecution) will be physically delivered in the 2nd coming.

Some might wish to separate the word "saved" in verse 13 from the use of the word in verse 22. This would be a forced interpretation because the entire passage is in an eschatological context. The word "saved" in verse 22 would not make sense unless interpreted in an eschatological sense. The elect do not need saved, they are aleady saved. When the great persecution of Matthew 24 comes, they will need physically delivered, or saved, from their detractors by the Lord of Sabaoth.

Not that this will MEAN as MUCH to everyone, but let me offer this in edification of those ABLE to 'understand it':

David, (the King of Israel), was a SINNER beyond compare. This man committed ALMOST every sin KNOWN to mankind, yet was 'considered to BE: 'a man 'after God's OWN heart. How could this BE?

Let me explain:

David LOVED God. He KNEW God. He also KNEW that God WAS his Father and LOVED HIM. Each and EVERY time that David perfomed his sins, he WENT back, dropped to his KNEES and BEGGED for forgiveness. NOT in some 'superficial way' that was ONLY performed for the sake of avoidance of PUNISHMENT, but he TRULY repented of his sins and BEGGED God for HIS CONTINUED LOVE, and BELIEVE it or not, the PUNISHMENT that God deemed FIT for the acts that David performed.

This is the 'answer' folks. Believe it or not, God DOES love us and He DOES 'punish' those that He loves. As ANY 'good parent' would DO, He does His BEST to TEACH us that which we NEED to LEARN in order to be WORTHY of 'everlasting life'. What kind of 'Creator' would choose to have a 'bunch of selfish boneheads' living with Him for the rest of eternity? He wants CHILDREN that LOVE Him and choose to FOLLOW that which is RIGHT. While KNOWING that we are STILL very immature Spiritually, He WANTS to TEACH us and He WANTS those that are WILLING to LEARN.

So, the answer to this 'David' delima is this: David was NO different than ANY man on the planet so far as 'MISTAKES' are concerned. But he was WILLING to accept the reprecussions for his mistakes and ACCEPT the BLAME for that which only HE was 'responsible FOR'. And, instead of allowing his 'sins' to SEPARATE him from God, he ALWAYS turned BACK to God and BEGGED for forgiveness, SHOWING God that he DID understand and WISHED for the LEARNING that was obtainable. Knowing that God LOVED him, and at the SAME TIME, loving God AS his Father and trusting in His will rather than his OWN. KNOWING that he was BUT A CHILD still so far as Spirit is concerned. And it was THIS 'understanding' that MADE David a 'man after God's OWN HEART.

What does God do to punish his children?

His methods are myriad.

If we 'look back' at the history of those that He loves, we can SEE some of the 'ways'.

David lost a child and lost 'some of his people'. Many have been killed or died for their sins. Moses was denied entrance into the promised land. Jonah swallowed by a fish. The list is varied and extensive.

I have a 'list of my own' concerning punishments that have taken place in MY own life.

I think it is ONLY fair to accept that WE ARE responsible for our actions. And for MANY there IS a price to PAY for disobedience. And what MANY are often UNABLE to SEE is that MUCH of their misfortune is brought on as direct consequence to their ACTIONS.

The important thing to REMEMBER is that God LOVES us and as ANY GOOD parent, He MUST attempt to TEACH us even if the lesson is 'painful' at times.

Much was my situation Imagican.

And MINE as well. I don't believe that there are ANY that have 'come to the Lord' that are UNABLE to testify to God BEING a 'WILLING and LOVING Parent'.

But we MUST always remember; NO MATTER WHAT we DO, He IS a LOVING and forgiving Father. He gave His ONLY Begotten SON for our sins. He has endured times when mankind has utterly 'turned their collective backs on Him'. But has STILL 'stuck with us' in the HOPES that 'one day' we would LEARN what it IS to 'be in His image'.

And THANKS Nick. It is edifying indeed to hear others testiimony in recognition of God's LOVE usward.
