Bible Study BALAAM : prophet or false prophet ??.

Anaphora

Member
Numbers 31:8. . Balaam gave into temptation for money and gifts from moab. He did have gift of prophecy. He went against instructions to king Balak of moab. God told him to wait. Balaam aligned himself with the Midianites. He was killed by the sword. Question. Was Balaam a prophet of God or fake prophet ??.

Num 31:16 Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the LORD.

Joshua 13:22 Balaam also the son of Beor, the soothsayer, did the children of Israel slay with the sword among them that were slain by them.

2Peter 2:15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;
2Peter 2:16 But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet.

Jude 1:11 Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.

Rev 2:14 But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.

Within these verses Balaam is held up as an example of one who apostatized for the sake of material gain. He no longer had God's protection over him and was killed by the sword during a battle for the Reubenite occupation of Moabite land.
