This question came to my mind after I accidentally scratched open a bug bite. Nature's band-aid or store bought band-aids? Which is the best way to go? I usually just go ahead and put a Band-Aid on it unless I have a bloody nose or something. Then I just let nature do its course. :yes

Wash it with hot water and soap. (Both kill germs)
Put some antibiotic on the wound.
Cover it with a band aid to keep dirt out.
When it gets a scab, you won't need the band aid.

I've never been able to keep band aids on.
I like hydrogen peroxide for washing minor cuts and abrasions like this. For bug bites and such that still itch, witch hazel helps.
