I was baptized as an infant and when I started believing for myself I was baptized as an adult. My understanding is that I have been baptized in water signifying a repentant heart. But do you need to pray earnestly for the Holy Spirit to baptize you?

Thank you, wondering. There is a lot of good information there.

When I was baptized I didn't have hardly any faith or belief. I didn't understand very much. I simply obeyed and was willing to part from sin, even though I had no success. Today I have more success from overcoming sin but I am very weak. It has been hard to know in myself whether I am alive in Christ or not. I keep praying to God that He help me know my own state.

You only need the faith of a mustard seed.
There's not too much to understand.
Your heart yearned for God and you've found Him.
If you wonder if you are alive in Christ, it means you are. If you weren't , you wouldn't care about it.
We all sin, we all are weak.
You'll be safe in Jesus' hands, have faith in Him. He died for you.
You do your best
Jesus does the rest.

The Body of Christ
12The body is a unit, though it is comprised of many parts. And although its parts are many, they all form one body. So it is with Christ. 13For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free, and we were all given one Spirit to drink. 14For the body does not consist of one part, but of many.…

the holy spirit come into your heart the moment your saved. the next step is learning to be led of the spirit. prayer and study and quite time .the still small voice. all this takes place as you grow .. no thrill spills fire works.. led of the spirit as what GOD would have you do. that is the baptism of the holy spirit.

God will baptize you in the Holy Spirit when you have truly believed in your heart God raised Jesus from the dead. It has to be something you really know happened.

Here's the Biblical statement of what happens in baptism:
Rom 6:3-4 (NKJV) Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
In baptism:
(1) You died with Christ.
(2) You were buried with Christ.
(3) You were resurrected to new life in Christ.
But do you need to pray earnestly for the Holy Spirit to baptize you?
I would.
Fast and pray.
Ask other's pray for you as well.
Ask them to lay hands on you to receive the Holy Spirit (assuming they have the HS themselves) and to anoint you. (Chrismation)

"Jesus" baptizes with the Holy Spirit. While I also was baptized as an infant and have always loved and believed in the Lord, (as far back as my memory goes), I asked myself for the Fathers promise and like Jacob who wrestled with the angel wasn't going to let go until God blessed me. A short time afterward I had this sign =The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children.

So ask (Jesus) away its a gift based on a promise. (Fathers) The apostles themselves started without the Spirit in them and they believed and loved the Lord as Jesus stated to them "the Holy Spirit was with but on that day will be in you".

No one enters the Kingdom of God except by the Son. So direct your prayer to Him. Trust me nothing is hidden from Him.

John 14
“If you love me, keep my commands.16And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—17the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will bec in you.18I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.19Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.20On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.21Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”

If you were Baptized unto salvation, He is in you! If you have any of the spiritual gifts, it is because He has sealed you. Some, incorrectly believe the gift that marks the indwelling f the Holy Spirit isw the gift of Tongues but any study that does not pull scripture out of it's context proves that is not true.

Welcome to the forums.

Brother,

God loves you and desires for you to receive the Holy Spirit, as those who received the Holy Spirit during the first century.

Let's examine some scriptures, together to find out about this awesome gift of the Holy Spirit.

  • The Pattern:

When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.... 33 Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear. Acts 2:1-4,33

  • When the Holy Spirit, was poured out on people in the beginning, there was evidence that could be seen or heard.

  • Samaria believes the Gospel, preached through Phillip, and were Baptized, but had not received the Holy Spirit:

12 But when they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized. 13 Then Simon himself also believed; and when he was baptized he continued with Philip, and was amazed, seeing the miracles and signs which were done.

  • The Apostles go to Samaria to lay hands on them, to receive the Holy Spirit:

14 Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them, 15 who, when they had come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. 16 For as yet He had fallen upon none of them. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 17 Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. 18 And when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, 19 saying, “Give me this power also, that anyone on whom I lay hands may receive the Holy Spirit.” Acts 8:12-19

  • The Apostles went to Samaria, because the Holy Spirit had not yet been received.
  • Simon saw, when the Holy Spirit was given through the laying on of the Apostles hands.

When the Holy Spirit is poured out upon people, there is evidence that can be seen or heard.

More to come...
