I was baptized as an infant and when I started believing for myself I was baptized as an adult. My understanding is that I have been baptized in water signifying a repentant heart. But do you need to pray earnestly for the Holy Spirit to baptize you?
Brother,
God loves you and desires for you to receive the Holy Spirit, as those who received the Holy Spirit during the first century.
Let's examine some scriptures, together to find out about this awesome gift of the Holy Spirit.
When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and
one sat upon each of them. 4 And
they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.... 33 Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and
having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit,
He poured out this which you now see and hear. Acts 2:1-4,33
- When the Holy Spirit, was poured out on people in the beginning, there was evidence that could be seen or heard.
- Samaria believes the Gospel, preached through Phillip, and were Baptized, but had not received the Holy Spirit:
12 But when
they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ,
both men and women were baptized. 13 Then Simon himself also believed; and when he was baptized he continued with Philip, and was amazed, seeing the miracles and signs which were done.
- The Apostles go to Samaria to lay hands on them, to receive the Holy Spirit:
14 Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria
had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them, 15 who, when they had come down,
prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. 16 For as yet He had fallen upon none of them.
They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 17 Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. 18 And when Simon
saw that through the laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, 19 saying, “Give me this power also, that anyone on whom I lay hands may receive the Holy Spirit.” Acts 8:12-19
- The Apostles went to Samaria, because the Holy Spirit had not yet been received.
- Simon saw, when the Holy Spirit was given through the laying on of the Apostles hands.
When the Holy Spirit is poured out upon people, there is evidence that can be seen or heard.
More to come...
