First off, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.
It is not a remake, retelling, sequel, or prequel, and is not in anyway related to the other "Batman" films, which I dislike.
This film is best termed as a restart to the cinematic Batman.
You may not want to go see this one because of previous Batman "movies"(if I may call them that.), but trust me, this one has it all.
*Some spoilers*
The movie opens kind of oddly, with Bruce Wayne in a foreign prison of his own free will fighting criminals. After 30 minutes, it picks up and things fall into place. The title really makes sense, as Batman's origins, gadgets, story, meaning, and purpose are all explained. The Bruce Wayne/Batman actor(don't know his name) seem like two different people, successfully creating an alter ego.
This movie is not filled with corniness like the others films, i.e. No names like Bat mobile, Bat cave, Bat-a-rang-, Bat phone, etc. Instead, this is what Batman should be: A dark character, not a cartoon character.
Although a dark film(not too much so, though), there is not much objectionable content, so, besides action violence, kids would be fine seeing it.
One of the few movies that I am going to see more than once.
