I hope this is the correct place to put this?
Although Battlestar Galactica (the new one) came out as a telemovie, I was hoping I could talk about the TV series which followed.
I know it has the whole semi-religious theme happening - kind of like Christianity but kind of different. Did anyone notice how the women are portrayed in this series though?
At first I thought it was mostly trying to sell sex - nearly every female character has some sex-scene with some of the male characters. When I thought about it a bit more however; nearly all the women hold some form of power over the men too. Either it's a physical power (in the case of the female president) or a psychological power (in the case of all the other female characters - especially the main Zylon character stuck inside the professor's head).
Whenever you see a scene with a woman in it; they are either sleeping with some guy, thinking about sleeping with some guy, hating themselves or plotting to subtly take power from some guy. There are no redeeming qualities to the female character roles at all. Except maybe for the president who is dying of cancer anyway - yet she still demonstrates that she will not give up power easily.
This got me thinking that with the whole semi-religous stuff happening in the background of the series; are they also trying to portray all the women as sinister representations of Eve. Just in case anyone doesn't immediately get the analogy, I mean as is Adam and Eve.
What's more; are the poor hapless men who try to pretend they have power and authority; but yet always seem to get "deceived" by the female characters - a representation of Adam?
These are just my rambling thoughts but I was curious if anyone else picked up the same thing?
