Be careful

If our desire is to prove we are right or to prove another to be wrong, what is to be gained? As Christian brothers and sisters we should understand that it is not about us. If our words do not glorify or edify God they are worthless and detrimental to the body. Not only does it feed the flesh/pride of those jousting to prove themselves it takes a toll on those that witness especially the ones young in their walk. This is not directed at or intended to harm anyone, these things I am guilty of myself.

2 Timothy 2:14 (NASB)

14 Remind them of these things, and solemnly charge them in the presence of God not to wrangle about words, which is useless and leads to the ruin of the hearers.

We are told to be light in the world "a reflection of Jesus"

Matthew 5:16 (NASB)
16 Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

Hold me close my loving Savior
Fill this heart to love like You
Lead this life to be like Jesus
Its all I want to do
Your will is so precious
Its where I need to be
Glorifying my Savior
For all the world to see

John 3:30 (NASB)
30 He must increase, but I must decrease.

O be careful little eyes what you see

O be careful little eyes what you see

There's a Father up above

And He's looking down in love

So, be careful little eyes what you see

O be careful little ears what you hear

O be careful little ears what you hear

There's a Father up above

And He's looking down in love

So, be careful little ears what you hear

O be careful little hands what you do

O be careful little hands what you do

There's a Father up above

And He's looking down in love

So, be careful little hands what you do

O be careful little feet where you go

O be careful little feet where you go

There's a Father up above

And He's looking down in love

So, be careful little feet where you go

O be careful little mouth what you say

O be careful little mouth what you say

There's a Father up above

And He's looking down in love

So, be careful little mouth what you say

Good post. There is no doubt that I am aware of a prideful strain within me that can be more interested in "winning" a debate than at getting at the truth. Having conceded that, I will also say (in my defense) that I am (1) aware of this; (2) trying to redress it. Now, it will come as no surprise to some of you that I think there is a lot unbiblical and otherwise unhealthy stuff on this site. And I would maintain that it is indeed "proper" to challenge what one truly sees as problematic. So while pride gets in the way, we certainly do not want to leave the funny stuff unchallenged.

Christian language, theological terms, doctrinal knowledge, Bible memorization, and no love makes you a clanging cymbal and a white-washed tomb.

All for a smug assurance that "I won", which doesn't even feel all that good once it's all said and done.

Yes brother we are in agreement I felt prompted not to post the following scriptures not to be misleading but to allow a moment to reflect on ones motive for standing in opposition to another. Your post covered the writer of the scriptures message.
2 Timothy 2:15-19 (NASB)
15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth. 16 But avoid worldly and empty chatter, for [a]it will lead to further ungodliness, 17 and their [b]talk will spread like [c]gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, 18 men who have gone astray from the truth saying that the resurrection has already taken place, and they upset the faith of some. 19 Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Everyone who names the name of the Lord is to abstain from wickedness.”

Realized this, not too long ago either. The drive of the conversation, the debate, and even the argument makes me want to give my arguments, line up the reasoning, and even sometimes rub the other person's nose in it. The draw to win, or to just re-explain something is too easy a temptation. And too often it's not good for me or the other person.

Thanks for the post on this.

Total agreement.......
There is a continuous battle
That goes on in my life
My flesh and my spirit
Continue to fight
The victory is His but
My flesh cannot see
Its all about Him
It is not about me
The battle goes on
It is the never
Ending story
The stake is the answer
To God be the glory

Certainly true.

Paul contended for the faith, even telling us not to contend as one boxing the air (scoring nothing). It's wrong for the OP to suggest that any and all contending for the truth is categorically and without exception motivated by pride. Dead wrong. Just do it with a clean heart.

Rewards are waiting, and they are waiting for those who faithfully walked in their gift(s) (1 Peter 4:10-11 NASB), being responsible to put to use what God gave them, and more importantly, who actually got something done through their gift. There are no rewards for those who stood idly by, fearful that contending for the truth was the equivalent of having pride and serving a selfish agenda of personal aggrandizement, and no reward for those who did not contend so as to win the prize. :)

Brother never said all, your attempt to create the chaotic atmosphere that seems to follow most of the threads you post is a waste. This is exactly what this thread is about. I am asking you to please not trash this thread with discontent. You can do what you may I am not going to participate. I will pray for you.

im always right, humble, its everyone else who is wrong an full of pride.

NOT
It was easier ground for me to enter, that I am ALWAYS wrong.

It was much easier to see things from that chair, and to seek His Kindness, Light and Understanding, because of my lack of same and sincerely desiring and wanting MORE of His Light, and none of my own.

Paul, even wished, himself to be accursed from Christ, for the sake of others.

Romans 9
1 I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost,
2 That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart.
3 For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:
