Well I wasn't christian before the internet, but I would imagine books, radio, and real face-to-face encounters with other christians (ya know, going to church and such oldfashioned stuff) used to play a big role.

still there's a need, a great need, for personal (not long distance, not internet) fellowship in the body of Christ, and also to be "a doer of the Word" and not just a hearer as is repeated in Scripture urgently. the time spent on the internet cannot accomplish the Word that Yhvh has given (read it through and through, fervently, devotedly, seeking His Face directly) nor is it possible to accomplish what He prepared before the Creation for His ecclesia to do.
